My Youth Episode 3 and 4 recap: Hae’s past and present reconnect
The third episode of My Youth shows that the new show, which will have Hae and Tae-rin, will not be like the previous shows that Tae-rin was in, but rather completely different. The thought of Hae’s reappearance in the world of entertainment begins to worry Pil-doo. Pil-doo is Hae’s stepmother. This adds a layer of tension to the storyline. However, Hae faces a mild setback at the beginning of filming.
Right when the filming starts, he begins to have a panic attack. It can be understood that this panic attack is related to his past experiences. He soon recovers from the panic attack, and the filming ends successfully for the day. This episode also reveals Hae’s way of life. This can be seen when Hae describes his personality to Je-yeon.
Growing up under the spotlight took a toll on him, and it has left a mark on his life. This episode ends with a grave revelation about Hae’s mother’s life. It is revealed that there were connections between Hae’s mother and the director Hae worked with. This cliffhanger is later explained in the fourth episode of My Youth. In the fourth episode, we learn that Hae’s mother grew obsessed with his son’s success and the benefits his success came with.

It was also a reason for issues between Hae and his mother. The director, who was once the propelling factor in Hae’s fame as a child actor, took advantage of Hae’s mother’s trust and scammed her. She lost money, and this led to her family getting trapped in debt.
Hae’s mother could not bear the situation. She eventually decided to end her life. He had to face the difficulties of life at such a young age without any of his parents by his side. This left a huge impact on him. It is the reason why he chooses peace over anything else.

The third and fourth episode of My Youth perfectly encapsulates how Hae’s past and present reconnect. These two episodes are the building blocks in setting the stage for the upcoming story between Hae and Je-yeon. At the end of the fourth episode, Hae openly says his reason for joining the documentary.
Their relationship might have ended in the past, but this time around, Hae’s determination to get close to Je-yeon truly shines bright. It makes us wonder whether Hae and Je-yeon will finally be able to get the happy ending that they deserve.
