Among the most popular firefighting dramas is Chicago Fire, which focuses on the lives of paramedics and firefighters at Firehouse 51. The ongoing Season 13 kicked off last year in September and is gearing up for a finale this month.

One of the major storylines in Chicago Fire Season 13 has been the leadership transition. Wallace Boden, who had been the team’s anchor for years, has now moved up the ranks to become Deputy Commissioner and led Dom Pascal to take his position.

There have been major cases throughout the season, and the Chief even lost his wife in an accident. Following the drama and emerging cases, NBC has decided to move forward with Chicago Fire Season 14.

Yes, you read that right. The show has been greenlit for a fourteenth chapter. The announcement also confirmed that the other two series in the One Chicago universe, Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med are coming back as well.

However, the journey to this good news wasn’t exactly smooth, especially given the recent wave of renewal and cancellation updates from major TV networks. Over the past few weeks, viewers were growing concerned because NBC had announced renewals for some of its newer series but stayed silent about the long-running drama.

NBC has greenlit Chicago Fire for Season 14

NBC has officially renewed Chicago Fire for another season, even before Season 13 ended. This means the firefighters and paramedics at Firehouse 51 will return for more drama, rescues and emotional stories during the 2025–2026 TV season.

The network has yet to reveal the number of episodes for Chicago Fire Season 14. In past seasons, it has ranged from 13 to 22 episodes. But due to budget issues, there might be fewer episodes this time.

As for the cast, all main characters will return, NBC and Universal Television are trying to reduce production costs, due to which some characters might not appear in all the episodes. Additionally, actors are reportedly being asked to live in Illinois (where the show films) to cut travel and housing costs.

Among the key cast members in Season 13 include Taylor Kinney (Kelly Severide), Miranda Rae Mayo (Stella Kidd), Dermot Mulroney (Chief Dominic Pascal), David Eigenberg (Christopher Herrmann), Christian Stolte (Mouch), Joe Minoso (Joe Cruz) and Hanako Greensmith (Violet Mikami).

While the above-mentioned actors will come back, Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) and Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) won't be seen in Season 14. This was confirmed last month that these two actors have left the drama.

Since the latest season will soon end, many might want to revisit what has happened till now and how the story began. So, Season 13 of Chicago Fire begins with big changes at Firehouse 51. Dominic Pascal replaces Wallace Boden as Battalion Chief, bringing a different leadership style.

The team faces a massive gas explosion early on, and when Pascal is away, Herrmann temporarily takes charge, proving how much he’s grown as a leader. The season also dives into personal struggles. Severide and Kidd think about adopting, while Carver battles alcoholism and works through rehab.

Cruz tries to balance his demanding job with his personal life, and Violet deals with complicated dynamics at work and beyond. Emergency calls stay intense—from delivering a baby in a crisis to uncovering illegal weapons.

Mouch and Herrmann study for officer exams, and a long-awaited crossover with Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. adds more drama. Meanwhile, new characters like Jack Damon and ongoing scenes at Molly’s Bar keep things fresh.

So, don't miss out on the finale of the One Chicago series on May 21, 2025 on NBC.
