NBC is working on a new sitcom called Hotel Sofia. This show is about a woman who left her home country to run a small hotel in Greece. She hosts a group of American students who come to learn overseas.

As she helps them, she also tries to rebuild her own life. The hotel becomes a place for laughter, friendship, and small surprises. Maria Ferrari and Andy Gordon created Hotel Sofia together.

Susan Rovner from Aha Studios will help make the show a reality. All three names associated with the show so far have strong backgrounds in writing and producing TV comedies. They hope to give viewers both funny moments and gentle lessons about growing up and finding yourself in a new place.

Hotel Sofia is set in a lively Greek hotel full of students

Hotel Sofia’s main character welcomes American exchange students each week. They come from many different states and bring their jokes and worries. The hotel corridors will probably buzz with laughter, teenage drama, and language mix-ups.

Maria Ferrari, who helped write for shows like The United States of Al and Young Sheldon, shaped these student stories with a caring touch.

Andy Gordon, known for work on Mad About You and Modern Family, adds everyday humor and heart. Together, they aim to show how small moments in a hotel room can become big moments in life.

Susan Rovner formerly served as a Warner Group chairman and CEO of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. Currently she is the CEO of Aha Studios.

Maria Ferrari and Andy Gordon were both involved in the writing process for The Big Bang Theory. Ferrari is represented by CAA, and Gordon is with UTA and agent Phil Klein.

Susan Rovner, who once led that same network, now manages the 2024-launched Aha Studios. At the same time, Rovner has sold other new shows, like a drama about a famous department store and a cooking competition with Padma Lakshmi. Their combined experience gives the show a solid launchpad.

The series mixes simple humor with gentle life lessons

Rather than big slapstick gags, Hotel Sofia might use everyday situations for laughs. The show may present the hotel owner sharing pieces of wisdom drawn from her own past mistakes. With a proper mix of kindness and comedy, the show may bring warm feelings without becoming overtly sweet. NBC has long favored multi-camera shows with friendly casts, and Hotel Sofia fits that tradition while adding an international twist.

As of July 31, 2025, NBC has not set a premiere date for Hotel Sofia. The script is in review, and casting decisions are still to come. If the pilot episode is approved, filming could start later this year.

Until then, fans can watch for more news from NBC about which actors will join the hotel lobby and which storylines will unfold. With experienced writers and a fresh premise, the show may become one of NBC’s next memorable comedies.

For now, viewers can imagine colorful Greek sunsets, lively student debates, and small hotel moments that bring people from different worlds together.
