Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs' (Mark Harmon) origin tale will be back on CBS in NCIS: Origins Season 2 on October 14, 2025. The prequel series of the hit procedural series, NCIS, debuted its Season 1 on CBS in October 2024.
Origins is set in the 90s and follows a young Gibbs (Austin Stowell) when he was a rookie in the Pendleton branch of NIS. The series expands on the beloved character's origin lore and follows Gibbs as he becomes the Special Agent we know from the parent series. In addition to Gibbs, NCIS: Origins also brought back iconic NCIS characters, who will also return in Season 2.
Here is the complete cast and character guide for NCIS: Origins Season 2.
NCIS: Origins Season 2 cast: Every main character set to return
Austin Stowell will return to lead NCIS: Origins Season 2 as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The character of Gibbs is as classic as the crime procedural itself and Stowell was highly praised for his performance as a young Gibbs. While Gibbs managed to escape arrest after murdering the man who killed his wife and daughter in the Season 1 finale, thanks to Special Agent Cecilia "Lala" Dominguez's help, her fate was uncertain as she was involved in a brutal car accident.
Additionally, Harmon will also return as the veteran and OG Gibbs from NCIS, serving as a narrator in Season 2.
Other returning main characters are as follows:
1) Kyle Schmid as Special Agent Mike Franks: Gibbs' no-nonsense mentor, who was played by Muse Watson in the parent series, will return in NCIS: Origins Season 2. As a seasoned leader, Mike provides balance in Gibbs' story and sets an impressive example for him. Schmid is best known for his performances in Being Human and The Covenant.
2) Mariel Molino as Lala Dominguez: Molino's Special Agent Lala is one of the most interesting additions to the NCIS-verse, who was introduced as Gibbs' partner and potential love interest. While Lala's fate is uncertain after her car accident in the Season 1 finale, the actress will likely appear in NCIS: Origins Season 2.
3) Tyla Abercrumbie as Officer Mary Jo Hayes: The self-described secretary in charge, Officer Mary Jo was another new addition in the procedural. She was a highly revered character and will appear in Season 2 as well. Tyla Abercrumbie is best known for Showtime's crime series The Chi.
4) Diany Rodriguez as Special Agent Vera Strickland: While Roma Maffia played Vera in only one episode of NCIS, the character was brought back for the prequel. Vera Strickland will be back in Season 2 as Mike's partner.
NCIS: Origins Season 2 cast: Every supporting character set to return
Here is a list of supporting characters returning in the sophomore season:
1) Caleb Foote as Special Agent Bernard "Randy" Randolf
2) Daniel Bellomy as NIS Agent Herman "Herm" Daniel
3) Julian Black Antelope as Chief Medical Examiner Témet Téngalkat
4) Patrick Fischler as Special Agent in Charge Cliff Wheeler
5) Michael Harney as Richard Kowalski
Who are the new faces in NCIS: Origins Season 2?
In addition to the main cast, NCIS: Origins Season 2 has also added many new faces.
Ransom Canyon star Philip Winchester will appear in the recurring character of Mason Franks, the older brother of Schmid's Mike Franks. Mason will be a Texas-tough cowboy who is currently struggling to keep his family ranch. Desperate times will force Mason to reconnect with his estranged brother Mike.
Additionally, Adam Campbell, who played young Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard in NCIS, will reprise the character in a special episode in NCIS: Origins Season 2. The special episode titled The Edge will be a tribute to the late NCIS star David McCallum, who played Ducky in the parent series till his passing in 2023.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, co-showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North revealed that the episode will be dedicated to McCallum's memory:
“We wanted to do this episode to honor the memory of our dear friend David McCallum. He was a beloved member of the NCIS family for so many years, and we’re incredibly lucky to have the talented Adam Campbell back to bring the younger version of this iconic character to life once again.''
Origins Season 2 will debut on CBS on October 14, 2025.
