While investigating Miguel Castillo’s father, Gibbs is unable to control his anger when the man tells him about pushing his son to do better. Gibbs thinks that Miguel’s father might have pushed him to practice harder, which might have caused his death. Mike takes Gibbs out of Miguel’s father’s house and tells him that he is not ready to do interrogations on his own, which further angers Gibbs.

The two of them then go to speak to Miguel’s swimming coach, who informs them that the whole swim team lost the scholarship. He also informs that Miguel had paid the full amount in cash, which raises concern. The investigation takes a turn when the swim team arrives at the station and Gibbs notices that the team’s captain, Owen, has the same marks on his legs as the ones Miguel had. He quickly understands that there might be some connection between the two of them.

Gibbs then takes the rash decision to interrogate Owen by himself without taking permission from Mike. He takes Owen to the interrogation room and begins questioning. He almost had Owen spilling the truth when his anger took over and he lost control of the situation. Owen took advantage of Gibbs’ outburst and avoided discussing more about Miguel. Mike arrives and is fuming at Gibbs’ audacity to take matters into his own hands.

Right after the interrogation is over, they find out through the forensic team that drugs were involved in the case. On the other hand, Owen also runs away.

They finally understand that Owen and Miguel were acting as drug mules. They worked with the cartel to earn money as they lost their scholarship. Then Owen gets caught, and it is revealed that their assistant coach is the one who put them in this situation. It was his idea to make the swim team work as drug mules to earn money. After successfully solving the case, Gibbs and Diane have a heart-to-heart conversation.

Gibbs opens up about his fear of not being good enough for the job. He expresses to Diane that his inability to communicate properly with others might become a hindrance in his path to becoming an interrogator. However, Diane gives him emotional support. They share a special moment. At the end of NCIS: Origins Season 2 Episode 2, Lala refuses to help Flaco. Flaco does not take the situation well.
