Mike refused to let Gibbs do the interrogation, thinking he was not ready, and Gibbs understood that Mike was wrong.
So to prove himself, he takes on the task of investigating Owen, who had similar marks on his leg, just as the one on the dead body, but it ends up completely taking a wrong turn. Gibbs’ anger takes over the interrogation, and Owen escapes. Though in the end the team is able to solve the case, Gibbs continues to struggle with his inability to properly conduct the interrogation.
He breaks down in front of Diane. He then speaks to her about his disadvantage of not being a good communicator. He understands that proper communication skills are essential for career growth.
