NCIS Season 23 Episode 2 titled Prodigal Son Part II continued Parker's search for justice for his father's death. The latest episode picked up right after the harrowing events of the premiere, where Parker was stuck on a ship with Carla, which was about to be exploded by Parker's sister Harriet.
While we do see Parker's ship exploding on video, it was not on Harriet's orders. The team realizes that somebody on board had already planned an explosion from the inside. Once the flames die out, Vance and Harriet check the debris for survivors but it looks like nobody managed to survive the explosion.
Are Parker and Carla dead?
Here is the complete NCIS Season 23 Episode 2 recap.
NCIS Season 23 Episode 2 recap: Gibbs' Rule No. 51
While the team had written Parker off as dead in NCIS Season 23 Episode 2, Kasie offers a ray of hope and reveals that the boat had a life raft. It also appears somebody planned the explosion to escape and the team locates the life raft at a small marina town. Kasie and the team find the number 51 written on the raft and McGee immediately recognizes it as Gibbs' Rule No. 51 (Sometimes you're wrong).
Parker is still alive and has left a big clue for the team. McGee tracks Parker to Gibbs' cabin and the two reunite and restart their search for Carla. The team realizes that Carla has escaped once again. Before Parker could begin his search, Harriet handcuffed him and put him in prison for recklessly breaking the rules and not listening to direct orders from his superiors.
NCIS Season 23 Episode 2 recap: Carla's search shifts to Cuba
After Harriet puts Parker in prison, Kasie discovers that Carla's granddaughter Lauren has gone missing in NCIS Season 23 Episode 2. The team learn that Carla has taken Lauren to Cuba and is holding her against her will. When Harriet learns that the Cuban government has offered Carla asylum in exchange for intel on Nexus, she realizes that only Parker can track her. She frees her brother from prison and orders him to get Carla.
Parker wastes no time and tracks Carla in a jungle hideout with his team. They realize that Lauren is being held hostage and Parker decides to trick Carla. Parker carefully makes his way inside in NCIS Season 23 Episode 2 and tells Carla that he is only here to take Lauren home. He offers her a locket in exchange, which he claims is from her son Jason. Carla caves in and hands over Lauren to Parker, only to realize that the locket is 'Made in Cuba'.
Once Carla realises that Parker has tricked her, she runs after him with a gun in her hand. However, before she could have shot, McGee and Torres fired first and Carla is officially dead.
NCIS Season 23 Episode 2 recap: The mystery continues

Once Carla is dealt with and Parker's father gets justice, he is given an official burial at sea. Parker finally makes amends with his sister, who tells him that their father used to carry his photo in his wallet. They celebrate the moment by singing "Take Me Home, Country Roads".
In the final moments of NCIS Season 23 Episode 2, Vance gathers the team in his office to reveal Parker's fate. When McGee asks Vance if Parker still has a badge after what he pulled off with Carla, he warns that he will not tolerate reckless behaviour on his team and will deal with Parker soon. While he dismisses the team, he asks Torres to stay back, setting up another mystery amidst the team.
Elsewhere, when Kasie uploads Lauren's DNA to the system to get Carla's match, she discovers that the lipstick mark found on wineglasses in Parker's home does not match Carla's. This means another woman was present at Parker's house before his father was killed. The episode ends with this riveting mystery, hinting Parker's search for truth isn't over yet.
