NCIS Season 23 Episode 4 is titled 'Gone Girls' and was aired on CBS on November 4. The A-team was brought in to investigate a high-stakes and strange kidnapping of the wife of one of the most powerful men at the Department of Justice. What made the case even shocking was that a Marine abducted the victim.

NCIS Season 23 Episode 4 started with Sergeant Molly Delgado. Somebody warned her about a person hiding in the back of her car but she paid no heed to their advice. As it turns out, somebody was certainly hiding but she was not there to harm Molly. In fact, Molly was the Marine who had abducted a woman and the A-team was on her trail now.

As the team digs into this case, Molly's motivations become clear and they make a shocking discovery about the real perpetrator.

Here is the complete NCIS Season 23 Episode 4 recap.

NCIS Season 23 Episode 4 recap: A-team tackles a high-stakes kidnapping case

Turns out that the Marine in the NCIS Season 23 Episode 4 opening moments wasn't the victim but the perpetrator. After the A-team found a vintage pistol at the crime scene that belonged to Deputy Attorney General Brett Gaines, it was revealed that Molly had kidnapped his wife. Although the case was under the FBI's jurisdiction, the Director wanted the NCIS team to bring his wife back to him. He revealed how Molly struck him down with his own pistol and abducted his wife, Claire Gaines, right in front of him.

This kidnapping was strange because Molly was a Marine Raider with a clean record. The team was wondering why a Special officer would abduct the wife of such an important member of the Department of Justice. In addition, Molly's phone activity showed that she messaged her book club after the abduction and was constantly sending messages to someone.

NCIS Season 23 Episode 4 recap: The FBI returns

While the A-team had no leads, the NCIS Season 23 Episode 4 case took a new turn when Molly showed up at the NCIS headquarters. This was not all; she had a body in her car, but it was not Claire. Instead, the body was of a former FBI agent named Neil Oken. The signs suggested that Neil and Molly had fought themselves to death until the latter defeated her opponent for good. Since Gaines had fired Oken, the team believed that he had likely hired Molly to abduct Claire as revenge on the Director. But why did Molly agree to the kidnapping?

Jessica was in the middle of questioning Molly. In fact, Molly was about to confess when the FBI swooped in and took the case from them. They took Molly and the A-team was officially out of the case.

NCIS Season 23 Episode 4 recap: A shocking revelation

While Parker is still on a warning (for his rogue mission in the season premiere), he agrees to help Jessica sneak into the FBI headquarters. As Parker distracts the officers with sugary treats, Jessica sneaks in to question Molly. As it turns out, Molly had not 'abducted' Claire, but she was saving her from her abusive husband. Molly's 'book club' was actually a secret underground railroad organization to help abused women. Given Gaines' position and power, it was difficult for Claire to seek traditional help, which is why Molly stepped in.

Gaines was afraid his secret would come out and thus wanted the A-team to track his wife. Additionally, he had hired Oken to find Claire and Molly before the latter killed him in combat. He then framed Molly for abduction in front of the NCIS and the media. After the truth was out in NCIS Season 23 Episode 4, Gaines was finally arrested for attempted murder and abuse of his wife.
