NCIS Season 23 Episode 6 recap: The team investigates a Naval captain's homicide

In NCIS Season 23 Episode 6, the deceased's name was Captain Seth Meyers (unrelated to the popular late-night talk show host). On the crime scene, McGee ran into one of his fans who runs a podcast about his books. While the team jokes that she is probably a stalker, she admits that she knew that McGee would be present on the crime scene and she just wanted to see her favorite author in action.

Back to the murder in NCIS Season 23 Episode 6, Captain Seth was working on a classified project with the Navy but the team could not gather any further information as Seth's file was completely cleared out. As a last resort, they contacted his boss, who told them that they were working on a repurposed drone project, made with old planes. The project would utilize old resources and also save them a lot of money. Russia was also after this project, which is why Seth stole and transferred the classified files to a standalone drive. However, his boss had no idea where the drive was now.

The murder case in NCIS Season 23 Episode 6 takes a harrowing turn when McGee is kidnapped by an elderly woman, who demands that he search for her missing son, Matthew Sheldon. In his captivity, McGee realizes that his kidnapping is connected to their murder case, as Sheldon was Seth's best friend. Sheldon's mother told him that his son has been missing for a while now but nobody is ready to help her.

The woman abducted McGee because she had faith in him. His son was a huge fan of McGee's books and even joined the Navy after getting inspired by him. Once McGee connected Sheldon with Seth, he learned that the former's mother owns Seth's drive. The drive revealed that the classified project was faulty, as it used poorly designed retrofitted planes. In fact, Sheldon died while flying one of these planes, which is why Seth stole the classified files and was about to expose this crime.

A decorated military intelligence officer herself, Sheldon's mother only came to her senses once McGee revealed how her son died a hero. He was afraid that the operation would be exposed and thus killed Seth to locate the files.
