Neagley takes the spotlight in Reacher Season 3, and I think her spin-off might be even better now

Given the fact that Frances Neagley has been a crucial part of Reacher’s life not only in Reacher Season 3, but from Season 1, it is only natural that a spin-off was coming based on her character. Titled Neagley, the spin-off will focus on the woman who has been helping Reacher as a detective since the very beginning of the show.

Reacher has taken significant liberty from the Lee Child novel series on which the show is based, while developing the character of Neagley. In contrast to Reacher’s physical power, Neagley has mostly served as the brain behind his missions and her support has always proved to be crucial.

However, in Reacher Season 3, Neagley faces a dangerous situation alone and how she defends herself shows what kind of action fans might expect from Neagley.

Neagley is shown to fight for herself in Reacher Season 3 Episode 6

In Reacher Season 3 Episode 6, when two assassins sent by Xavier Quinn attack Neagley in her office, a completely different side of her is revealed. As soon as she becomes aware of the presence of the killers in her office, Neagley becomes alert and uses her physical agility and intelligence to save herself.

She knows she does not have Reacher by her side and therefore decides that she should not directly go into attacking mode. She starts by distracting the killers and turns on the xerox machine, which diverts the assassins.

However, despite making her cover work initially, it gets blown up as she reaches her gun. Fortunately, she is not only a quick thinker but also an agile detective, and thus makes sure to shoot in time. The way she saves herself from the assassins on her own shows how much more she is capable of doing than what she has been doing till now.

As this sequence in Reacher Season 3 sets a solid groundwork for what kind of action can be expected in Neagley, it is also important to consider Neagley actor Maria Sten’s experience in fields like kickboxing, gymnastics, horse riding etc as these come in handy while doing the action sequences.

Talking about how she is invested in sequences like these in Reacher, Sten mentioned in an interview with Collider:

“[...] I’ve always been like a very physical person, so for me, it’s always been very high on my list of things that I wanted to do, doing action. And it’s great because I get to do my own stunts. The stunt team works with me to accommodate the fact that I’m going to do my own stunts. They shape it so that I’m able to do so.”

As her words make it clear, fans can expect to see more of Sten in action in Neagley.
