Néro The Assassin is Netflix’s upcoming great historical adventure drama, and it already looks like it is going to be worth watching. The series is set in early sixteenth-century France and traces the tale of an accomplished yet disillusioned assassin whose life is turned upside down when he is unwillingly accepted as the responsibility of his daughter. In the process, he encounters treachery, peril, and the ruthless nature of war and superstition.

The performance combines rapid swordplay with heart, giving life to both. Having beautiful French scenery, a good cast, and a release date of October 8th, 2025, Néro The Assassin will be a thrilling watch for all history and drama lovers.

Néro The Assassin: release date and streaming details

Néro The Assassin will come to all parts of the world on October 8, 2025. Get the snacks, subtitles, and even a medieval map ready to follow along, then.

The show will just be referred to as Néro in French-speaking countries, and everywhere else it will be streamed under the title Nero The Assassin. It will consist of 8 episodes, so it is not your usual never-ending drama but a binge-worthy mini-season with a complete story.

In early September, Netflix released its first trailer. The large marketing campaign started during the first half of this year, when exclusive footage was presented during the “Next on Netflix” event in Paris.

Expectedly, Netflix is offering television enthusiasts everything: dubbed and subtitled versions, international streaming, and trailers on Netflix and YouTube. Watch out for new updates and more teasers before you see Néro The Assassin appear in your Netflix feed on the morning of October 8.

Cast and crew of Néro The Assassin

The cast ensemble of Néro The Assassin features familiar French performers as well as some newcomers, so it is probably a high-budget, actor-oriented show. Pio Marmai plays the exhausted yet lethal murderer who is the protagonist of the story. Marmaï is a well-known actor in the French film industry and played the role of Porthos in The Three Musketeers. Alice Isaaz stars opposite him, and Olivier Gourmet, a well-known Belgian actor whose roles have made him well known in the Dardenne brothers' films, plays Horace, the priest who helps kick-start the story.

Even the supporting roles include numerous familiar faces of French actors like Louis-Do De Lencquesaing, Camille Razat, Yann Gael, David Talbot, Lili-Rose Carlier Taboury, Max Baissette de Malglaive, and Noam Morgensztern.

Allan Mauduit created the series, co-wrote it, and directed the first half of the season. The subsequent episodes are shot by Ludovic Colbeau-Justin, and this is more or less a guarantee of diversity in tone and style. Néro The Assassin, produced by Karé Productions on behalf of Netflix, is evidently ambitious. Filled with star actors, great creative talents, and spectacular locations, Néro the Assassin looks like one of Netflix's biggest French originals of the year.

Other details and what to expect

The story of Néro the Assassin is set in 1504, in the middle of a harsh drought. It unites politics, superstition, and revenge and tracks a cynical murderer who is left to take care of the daughter whom he once neglected. The trailers demonstrate thrilling battle scenes, road trips through sunny medieval streets, and gentler scenes when Néro and Perla attempt to determine whether they can be both a family and survivors.

It looks grandiose in production. The filming of the series took place in the spring and summer of 2024 in southern France, in Perpignan and Pyrénées-Orientales. Important scenes were filmed at the actual medieval fortress of Salses, as well as in Vintimille, Nice, Menton, and Barcelona.

With Karé Productions at the helm, Allan Mauduit co-wrote the scripts along with directing the first few episodes of Néro the Assassin, as it had been a long-time passion project of his. The combination of powerful visuals, factual locations, and personal narration makes the show both cinematic and historically embedded, one part action drama and one part character study.
