The Netflix and Warner Bros. deal has managed to shake up the entertainment industry to its core. It was announced on December 5 that the global streaming giant was set to acquire Warner Bros. and all of its entities, from film to television studios, HBO, and HBO Max, for a total enterprise value of $82.7 billion.
This deal came at the end of a long bidding war, which involved other media giants such as Comcast and Paramount. However, now that the acquisition has been announced, a lot of questions are coming up regarding the future of Netflix as well as for the different entities of Warner Bros., such as HBO Max.
One of these questions is the effect that this deal will have on the subscribers of the global streaming giant if the subscription prices were to take a hike.

Netflix CEO alleviates concerns regarding subscription prices taking a hike in light of the Warner Bros. acquisition

In one of the biggest mergers in the industry, Netflix has acquired the legendary Warner Bros. studio in a deal worth $72 billion. The studio is home to some of the biggest IPs in the entertainment sector, from the Harry Potter franchise to The DC Studios. This deal comes after the separation of Warner Bros. from Discovery, leading to an intense bidding war between media giants Comcast, Paramount, and Netflix.
Nevertheless, the global streaming giant has successfully won the bidding war, and per a December 5 announcement,
"Together, we can give audiences more of what they love and help define the next century of storytelling.”
This deal has created waves in the entertainment sector, with many considering the effect this will have on theatrical releases. Additionally, subscribers of the streaming giant are also worried about subscription costs, which might be subject to change as a result of the deal.
Netflix recently emailed its subscribers, alleviating such fears and assuring that there would be no changes to the streaming services at the moment, and that the streamer will directly inform its subscribers if there's anything to share:
Nothing is changing today. Both streaming services will continue to operate separately. We have more steps to complete before the deal is closed, including regulatory and shareholder approvals. You’ll hear from us when we have more to share. In the meantime, we hope you’ll continue to enjoy watching as much as you want, whenever you want - all on your current membership plan.
While this does confirm that there are no changes upcoming in the subscription costs at the moment, the focus on this being a reassurance for "today" does seem to leave room for potential changes in the future.
There is a high chance that subscription charges might be subject to change after the deal goes through all of its stages and comes into effect, all of which could take up to a year. But for now, there are no changes in the subscription costs for the streamers except for the periodic hikes, which were last experienced in January 2025.
