What is in the trailer of Wayward?

We get to see a few snippets of the teens who are students at the academy, along with some other characters. There is also a sequence set in the jungle, which is quite unsettling. It helps to set the stage for the show. At the end of the trailer, we see Toni Collette.

Who is in the cast of Wayward?

In addition to Toni Collette, who will portray Evelyn Wade, several other notable actors are involved. She shared a description of her character with EW via email, stating,

“Evelyn is a powerful, intense, and mysterious figure in the town. She runs Tall Pines Academy and has a lot of control over the community. We start the series not really understanding how or why she wields such authority, but as the story unfolds, so does the complex nature of Evelyn’s history and purpose. I found her intimidating to play at first, but pulling apart the facade of Evelyn gave me so much to dig into. She's completely fascinating.”

Canadian comedian and actor Mae Martin will play the role of Alex Dempsey. Mae Martin also created the show. In an interview with Tudum, Mae Martin says,

“I often talk around adolescence or I write characters who are processing their teens. It was such an intense time for me, and is for everyone, but I've always known I wanted to more directly dive into that time and all the visceral feelings of adolescence.”

Mae Martin also says that she draws the inspiration for Wayward from herself as well. She adds,

“My best friend was sent to one of these troubled teen institutes when she was 16. She came back and had just the craziest stories about it.”

Besides them, Patrick J. Adams will also appear in Wayward, where he plays Wyatt Turner. Other cast members include Sarah Gadon, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Brandon Jay McLaren, Patrick Gallagher, Joshua Close, and many more.

Wayward wasn't always the name of the series. Initially, the show was supposed to be called Tall Pines. While discussing her character, Alex, Mae Martin told EW that Alex is someone who is,

“yearning for acceptance and seduced by this fantasy of a normative nuclear family. I definitely have felt that in my life. We deal with the question, How much are you willing to lose and sacrifice yourself and your authenticity in order to get that community?”

This TV show is sure to be more than just a thriller. We'll see the complex clashes between generations set against a gripping backdrop.
