The British historical crime drama Peaky Blinders, created by Steven Knight, features a unique plot. It is set in Birmingham after World War I and focuses on the Shelby family and their gang. The series is led by the aspirational Tommy Shelby.

The narrative explores power struggles, politics, criminality, and family ties. This mainly occurs as the gang expands across England and beyond, and the show. It also features Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, and Paul Anderson, with notable cameos from Tom Hardy, Adrien Brody, and Anya Taylor-Joy. The series became a worldwide sensation, airing for six seasons from 2013 to 2022.

Netflix has officially greenlit a Peaky Blinders sequel series, with creators Steven Knight and Cillian Murphy returning. The new series will continue the Shelby family saga, expanding beyond the original season.

The logline, as noted in Deadline, states:

“Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

The BBC and Netflix have confirmed plans to renew Peaky Blinders for two more seasons. The original Steven Knight-produced drama was one of the most popular shows at the time. It told the story of the Shelby family, who rose from Birmingham's slums during World War I to build a formidable criminal empire, with Cillian Murphy playing Tommy Shelby.

Peaky Blinders is renowned for its distinctive blend of drama, history, and fashion, which has attracted followers from around the world and evolved into a cultural phenomenon, inspiring novels, television shows, fashion lines, and other products. The Immortal Man, a feature film set to release next year, will be the first to bring Shelby's story back to the big screen.

In 1953, the sequels would begin. Birmingham was still recovering from the intense World War II attack, and as the city rebuilt with concrete and steel, there was both promise and risk. At the core of this change is the Shelby family, who are once again balancing power, business, and conflict.

Returning as writer and creative director, Steven Knight ensures the plot remains clear and authentic. Knight is a renowned screenwriter who has contributed to television series such as SAS: Rogue Heroes and Taboo, as well as films including Eastern Promises and Dirty Pretty Things. Additionally, he was selected to write the next official James Bond movie.

Although it has not been revealed if Murphy will resume his role as Tommy Shelby, his behind-the-scenes presence ensures the production stays true to the show's original concept. His portrayal of Tommy was crucial to the first series' popularity, so his ongoing involvement remains a key element of the sequels.

As reported by Deadline, Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, built by Knight to support film and TV projects in the city, will be the filming location for the new movies. Both seasons will be produced by Kudos and Garrison Drama, with BBC One airing the show in the UK and Netflix streaming it worldwide.
