Netflix orders Robert Langdon series from Dan Brown in one of the biggest book deals ever

Netflix has entered into one of the biggest book deals with author Dan Brown for his upcoming The Secret of Secrets—the sixth installment in his best-selling book series, based on Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon.

Dan Brown's The Secret of Secrets is an upcoming thriller suspense novel, set to release on September 9, 2025.

The untitled series based on the book will be co-created by Brown and Carlton Cuse. This straight-to-series order from Netflix is one of the biggest book deals for the network for a book yet to be released.

The Secret of Secrets is the sixth installment in Brown's Robert Langdon series, following Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code, The Lost Symbol, Inferno, and Origin.

Three of these books were already adapted into feature films, with Tom Hanks playing the role of Robert Langdon. The fourth book, The Lost Symbol, was also adapted into a 2021 Peacock series, with Ashley Zukerman playing the role of a young Robert Langdon.

Netflix's book deal with Dan Brown is no surprise, given the author's popularity in the mystery genre. His books have been translated into over 56 languages and have sold over 250 million copies.

Netflix orders Robert Langdon series from Dan Brown's upcoming novel

After an eight-year gap, The Secret of Secrets will mark Brown's return with the Robert Langdon series. Announcing the publication date of his next, the author said:

“By far the most intricately plotted and ambitious book that I have ever written, and I also happen to think that it’s the most fun.”

Brown and Cuse will serve as writers, showrunners and executive producers for the untitled series. Emma Forman of Cuse’s Genre-Arts will also serve as one of the executive producers.

This is not the first famous book adaptation for Cuse, who has previously adapted another bestselling book series for the small screen. He co-created the adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, starring John Krasinski, which became one of the most successful projects for Amazon Prime Video.

Cuse and Dan Brown's partnership for The Secret of Secrets is also expected to re-create the magic of its previous adaptations.

The sixth book will follow Robert Langdon on an adventure through time, where the professor will have to race against ancient forces to find and rescue a missing scientist and his manuscript that can forever change humanity's understanding of the mind.

The Netflix series will combine futuristic elements and mystical lore to deliver a story filled with suspense and intrigue, mimicking the formula of Dan Brown's previous novels in the Robert Langdon series.

In addition, The Secret of Secrets is also the longest novel in the series.
