Netflix releases the first look of highly anticipated Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole

Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole, one of Netflix's most anticipated crime drama series, has dropped the first look for its debut season. In this, we see Tobias Santlemann sitting tensely in front of a laptop.

Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole will bring life to the famous Norwegian detective Harry Hole, a popular character that fans of Jo Nesbø’s bestselling novels celebrate. Along with the image reveal, Netflix has also confirmed the global release date.

The show debuts with all nine episodes on March 26, 2026, globally. The series will stream exclusively on Netflix.

Netflix releases the first look at Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole

The show will take viewers to Oslo amidst a dark underworld full of criminality. Netflix gave an early idea of what the show is about: We will see shadowy streets where nothing can be trusted. The show will bear a dark, gritty, psychological tonality.

Harry Hole, the popular character, will be played by Tobias Santelmann. He brings a unique edge to the remarkable yet deeply troubled character. Apart from the thrill of the plot, Jo Nesbo's Detective Hole also offers a character-driven drama rooted in challenges and grit.

It follows two police officers who work within the same system but walk on opposite sides of the law. Harry’s investigation slowly converges towards the conflict through the character of his colleague, Tom Waaler. Tom is a corrupt detective who has long operated in the shadows. Joel Kinnaman steps into the role of Waaler, Harry Hole’s nemesis and a force driving the story.

Waaler knows how to manipulate, and he is corrupt. He stands for everything that comes on the opposite side of the law, hiding behind his badge. His dynamic with Harry forms the emotional and moral core of the series. Their conflict goes beyond a single case and reflects a deeper clash of values. Pia Tjelta plays Rakel Fauke.

Rakel is Harry’s partner, who provides the show with an emotional anchor. The cast also includes other talents like Norwegian pop singer Dagny and Anders Danielsen Lie. Ane Dahl Torp will also feature, adding more depth to the character-driven tale.

Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole is created and written by Jo Nesbø, who serves as showrunner and executive producer. The first season adapts the fifth novel titled The Devil’s Star from the Harry Hole book series. This installment is often seen as a turning point in the novels, as the story is told more firmly from Harry’s perspective.

Øystein Karlsen takes the chair as Director and executive producer, previously known for Exit. He has described the show as a mix of a fast-paced whodunit and a slowly unfolding grounded human drama.
