Netflix has released a first look at its Extraction spin-off, titled Mercenary, starring Omar Sy as the lead, playing a soldier for hire on a dangerous hostage rescue mission, which takes him to Libya. The epic thriller makes Extraction among the first action series from Netflix to be awarded a spin-off.
The Chris Hemsworth starrer Extraction is one of the most successful film franchises from the global streamer, and now the spin-off is set to take place in the same world. Along with announcing the brand-new title for the Extraction series, Netflix also revealed a first look at Omar Sy as a soldier for hire in Mercenary.

Netflix reveals first look at the Omar Sy starrer Extraction spin-off, Mercenary
The Mercenary TV series is set in the same world as Extraction and stars Omar Sy as he embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. The series is set to find Sy's character trapped between ruthless killers and warring factions and forced to navigate life-or-death situations. He will be pushed to the edge on this mission, forced to confront his own deep emotional wounds while experiencing trauma, betrayal, and morally conflicting situations.
The first look at Mercenary reveals Omar Sy suited up in his mercenary gear while filming resumes in Morocco. As per Netflix, the Extraction series will be filmed in Morocco and Ireland, and filming has reportedly wrapped up in Ireland.
The official synopsis for Netflix reads:
"Helmed by showrunner, writer, and executive producer Glen Mazzara (The Shield, The Walking Dead), the action-packed series stars Omar Sy (Lupin, The Intouchables) as a soldier for hire who embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. "
It continues to add:
"Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, he must navigate life-or-death choices while confronting his own deep emotional wounds. The series explores the trauma, betrayal, and moral conflicts experienced by characters pushed to the edge."
With Glenn Mazzara as the showrunner, the epic thriller is set to be directed by Louise Hooper and Tim Southam. In the eight-episode thriller, both directors are set to take over four episodes.
Along with Omar Sy, Mercenary has an incredible ensemble of actors accompanying him, including Boyd Holbrook, Waleed Zuaiter, Natalie Dormer, Sacha Dhawan, Ed Speleers, Pip Torrens, Ross McCall, Michael Zananiri, Sam Woolf, Muhanned Ben Amor, Riyad Sliman, Jojo Macari, Aaron Heffernan, Emma Appleton, and Theo Ogundipe.
Exact details about the characters or plot of the Extraction spin-off are currently being kept under wraps, but the information revealed by the official logline does signal that the spin-off is set to be an equally immersive experience. The Omar Sy starrer is set to be produced by the Russo Brothers' AGBO, which has been involved in Extraction from the very start.
Along with the spin-offs, Extraction is also confirmed to return with its third film, starring Chris Hemsworth's Tyler Rake. The film is set to begin filming in 2026 once Hemsworth wraps up the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday.
