About Long Story Short trailer and more

The trailer for Long Story Short begins with a view of a house, followed by a family sitting around a table, with one of the children saying:

"Everyone pick a territory"

Their mother said:

"I want goats."

One of the children replied:

"I never get goats."

The son who spoke at the very beginning stated:

"Goats are not a territory."

To which their mother responded:

"This game makes no sense."

Her son answered:

”It doesn't make sense cause you're not listening."

Sounds chaotic, right? That is just what a regular day with one’s siblings and family looks like, and Raphael Bob-Waksberg brings exactly that with his new animated series. The series follows a family of three siblings and their parents from 1991 to what the trailer seems to suggest is 2022. But the events will not be told in chronological order; instead, we will see them in different stages of life, presented randomly.

The show’s logline, according to the description of the trailer on YouTube, is:

From the creator of BoJack Horseman, Long Story Short is an animated comedy about one family, over time. Jumping through the years, we follow the Schwooper siblings from childhood to adulthood and back again, chronicling their triumphs, disappointments, joys, and compromises.

The show’s voice cast includes Lisa Edelstein, Ben Feldman, Abbi Jacobson, Paul Reiser, Max Greenfield, Angelique Cabral, and Nicole Byer in main roles. The recurring guest voice cast includes Dave Franco and Michaela Dietz.

Long Story Short is written by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, who is also an executive producer on the show and serves as showrunner. Lisa Hanawalt has produced the show. Long Story Short is produced collaboratively by The Tornante Company and the animation studio ShadowMachine. Executive producers on the show include Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen, representing Tornante Television, and Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley, representing ShadowMachine.

As for Waksberg’s return to Netflix, he said to Tudum by Netflix:

“It is legitimately a thrill and an honor to be back doing what I love most: drafting enthusiastic pull quotes for press releases to Hollywood trade publications. Who says you can’t go home again?!”

Before the show has even premiered, it has been renewed for a second season. This is indeed great news for the creator and the entire team behind the show. It allows the upcoming series to become as or perhaps even more successful than BoJack Horseman. Waksberg spoke to Tudum by Netflix about the renewal, saying:

“Wow! A Season 2?!”
“And Season 1 hasn’t even come out yet! It must be a REALLY good show. I can’t wait to watch it when it premieres on Netflix, Friday, Aug. 22! Let’s all do that!”

Long Story Short premieres on Netflix on 22nd August 2025.
