Untamed Season 2 was an unlikely concept, given that it was initially meant to be a miniseries. The mystery thriller follows Kyle Turner, an Investigative Services Branch agent of the National Parks Service, as he investigates the death of a Jane Doe (played by Ezra Franky), who fell off the huge rock formation El Capitan.
Untamed was released on July 17, 2025, and has garnered over 24 million views on the platform, earning a Rotten Tomatoes score of 80% on the Tomatometer and 71% on the Popcornmeter. Untamed Season 2 has now been greenlit by Netflix, and news on the same was shared on Netflix's official X handle. The upcoming season will follow Kyle Turner as he uncovers a new mystery.
Untamed Season 2
Untamed Season 1 dealt with many themes in its six episodes. It explored fatherhood in two very different ways through two very different characters. It also explored themes of loyalty, love, nature, violence, and trauma.
Eric Bana plays Kyle Turner, and he is set to return in Untamed Season 2 to investigate yet another chilling case.
Bana spoke about the Untamed Season 2 announcement with Tudum by Netflix, saying,
“I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of UNTAMED to life,”
He continued,
“The response to Season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.”

On the news of season 2, co-creator Mark L. Smith said to Tudum by Netflix,
“Elle and I envisioned it as a stand-alone, six episodes,”
He continued,
“But then the more that we got into it, it was just such a great cast … it was just like, ‘Oh yeah, how do we keep this going?’ ”
At the end of Untamed Season 1, we saw Kyle leaving Yosemite, and while we don't know where exactly he went, it's likely to be a new park, where he wouldn't be haunted by his past. As Mark told Tudum by Netflix,
“This won’t be the first park he’s been in since Yosemite,”
Mark continued,
“He’s been to a lot of parks. He’s been busy, taking on a lot of cases. This will be the latest and it'll be more impactful for him.”
About what season 2 might explore, Elle Smith, co-creator of the show, said to Tudum by Netflix,
“We’ve done Yosemite. What’s the next park that could feel different from that?”
She continued,
“Each national park has such a different cultural identity, geographical identity. Being able to explore those places through the case and through Turner’s journey is what's so fascinating.”
Mark added,
“We can make the case organic to a different kind of park, a different kind of landscape, [and] not have someone just fall off another mountain,”
Elle further said,
“Our theme has been that this park is our main character, this park is sort of alive,”
She continued,
“We do want to maintain that thread. Whichever park we choose will be a character and it will kind of play a role in Turner’s emotional frame of mind.”
A stark difference that we will see in season 2 from season 1 is Kyle being new to the park. While in season 1, Naya Vasquez (played by Lily Santiago) was the one who was new to Yosemite and still learning the area, Kyle will be the one in a new, unfamiliar park.
As Mark said,
“Turner was so comfortable in Yosemite,”
“He was the one leading this charge, and people followed him. And now, [we’re] putting Kyle on his back foot, making him very uncomfortable … This time we get to follow Turner into a park and let him lead us, and we stumble along with him as he’s kind of finding his way.”
He also said,
“We’re going to make sure we populate it with characters that are interesting and help him in ways both good and bad,”
While we know Eric Bana is reprising his role in Untamed Season 2, it is not confirmed if the supporting cast from season one will be returning as well. This is because creators Elle and Mark L. Smith want season 2 to be set in a different park, and that would likely include new characters and, hence, a newer cast.
This was further hinted at by Mark when he was asked if the older characters were returning, and he responded by saying,
“We’re trying to figure that stuff out because my God, we loved our cast and we loved the characters that they brought to life,”
“In an ideal world, we would be able to pull something off.”
Until Untamed Season 2 is ready to be released, you can watch Untamed Season 1, streaming only on Netflix.
