Netflix sets October premiere date for Breathless Season 2: Here's what we know so far

Netflix has announced the release date for the Spanish hospital drama, Breathless Season 2, and it is sooner than you think. Your Halloween weekend just got way more interesting! Read along to know when it drops

Created by Carlos Montero, Breathless Season 1, starring Najwa Nimri and Manu Ríos, dropped on August 30, 2024. Soon after its debut, the series created a buzz and garnered worldwide attention, and was thus renewed for Season 2 last December.

It boasts a rating of 71 % on Rotten Tomatoes, which is at par with most medical dramas of recent times (with exceptions like The Pitt and The Trauma: Heroes on Call). Nonetheless, it also ranked in the Top 5 for five weeks since its release for Netflix's Non-English TV hits and ranked in the top 10 in almost 69 countries.

Breathless Season 2, or Respira Season 2, is set to release globally on Friday, October 31, 2025, on Netflix. Netflix announced it via a one-minute teaser trailer, where we saw the team at Joaquin Sorolla Hospital looking eagerly at a scan.

Breathless Season 2: Plot, cast, and more about the upcoming season of the Spanish medical drama

This Halloween, get ready to dive into the nooks of Joaquin Sorolla Hospital as Breathless Season 2 is set to release on October 31, 2025, on Netflix. Similar to its debut season, Breathless Season 2 will have eight episodes.

The series dives into the professional and personal lives of the medics and the staff of the fictional Joaquin Sorolla Hospital in Valencia, Spain. They navigate through critical cases, trying their best to provide medical care in spite of recent cuts to the public healthcare sector. Much like The Pitt, this series also focuses on the crude reality that the medical professionals face.

In the upcoming season, we will see the medics struggling with the privatization of the hospital management, which challenges their core values and ethics. Things turned complicated by the end of Breathless Season 1, where we saw Julia being attacked by a suicidal patient. In the next season, we might also find out who Jessica will choose between Lluis (her present partner) or Biel (the chemistry between them is undeniable).

Meanwhile, even though Patricia's experimental surgery is a success, Dr. Moa (who has a complex relationship with Patricia) tells her to opt for a different doctor since it is against the ethics. Elsewhere, Dr. Pillar will be seen struggling with her son's addiction.

• Blanca Suarez as Jesica Donoso, a doctor
• Borja Luna as Nestor Moa, an oncologist
• Alfonso Bassave as Lluis Bonet, the hospital's administrator
• Blanca Martinez as Blanca, a nurse
• Abril Zamora as Neus, hospital staff
• Xoan Forneas as Quique, a doctor

Among the new faces joining Breathless Season 2 is the Grammy-nominated singer, Pablo Alboran. The 35-year-old took to Instagram to share a sneak peek of Breathless Season 2. The original post is in Spanish, and the translation reads:

"Does anyone need an appointment? New signing in the medical team of Joaquín Sorolla for the second season of #Respira"

Additionally, Rachel Lascar will feature in Breathless Season 2 as Sophie, an oncologist, along with Gustavo Salmeron.
