Netflix has just released the teaser for Stranger Things season five. While there's a lot teased about the final season, the highlight is the revelation of Vecna. While Vecna has been tormenting Hawkins, Indiana, from the beginning, he was first seen in his true form in season four. While he resembles a disfigured creature, Vecna and his human form are played by Jamie Campbell Bower.
As Stranger Things season five comes closer, Netflix has finally released a teaser for the upcoming final season. The teaser revealed the first look of Vecna in season five.
Vecna in season five of Stranger Things
The entire plot of Stranger Things revolves around the dangers that haunt a group of friends in Hawkins. These dangers arrive in various shapes and forms. All originate from the Upside Down, a portal opened by a human experimentation facility.
Initially, it seemed that these creatures had their own motives, but in season four, we learn that most of them were sent by Vecna. Vecna is a powerful humanoid creature hellbent on eradicating humanity. But he wasn't Vecna from the beginning. He also has a backstory.
Vecna was a human, a young boy called Henry Creel, who moved to Hawkins with his family in 1959, and realized he had psychokinetic powers, much like Eleven's telekinetic powers. Henry used his powers to kill his mother and sister, but he was not charged with any of it. Instead, his father Victor was charged with the murders and was arrested.
Henry managed to fool everyone; he could not fool Dr. Martin Brenner, who found Henry and brought him to the human experimentation facility at Hawkins as the first child subject, naming him 001. But Brenner limited his powers and tracked him through a chip, essentially making Henry his prisoner. He used Henry's power to make several other children like him, and years later, in 1979, made eleven remove the chip that kept Henry's power in check.
As a result, Henry unleashed his power on the other test subjects, killing them, but he couldn't kill Eleven. Eleven managed to open up a portal called the Upside Down and sent Vecna there. Vecna became even more powerful in the Upside Down and returned to Hawkins in 1983 after Eleven accidentally opened the portal again. He tried to cause more destruction through the hive mind and the Mind Flayer.
We see his actual form in season four of Stranger Things, which was released in two parts in 2022. While Nancy, Robin, and Steve managed to destroy Vecna's physical body and Eleven destroyed him mentally, they couldn't kill him completely. The end of season four showed how Vecna was still alive and began wreaking havoc in the human world.
In season five, Vecna returns as the show's main and biggest antagonist, and the teaser released by Netflix teases us with the destruction he will cause. We also get the first look at Vecna in season five in the teaser.

The Stranger Things season five teaser has also revealed what we can expect from season five. Vecna will appear, but not too soon. As the teaser's YouTube description states,
Every battle has led to this.
The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.
Stranger Things season five will be released in three volumes. The first volume will be released on 26th November 2025, the second volume on 25th December, and the final volume on 31st December 2025.
