The Witcher released Season 4 on October 30, 2025, and this season saw growth in a few characters. Ciri (played by Freya Allen), for instance, is on her own and joins The Rats. She goes on heists with them, learns their way of life, and becomes a part of their family. But the character who has finally come into action this season is Yennifer of Vengerberg (played by Anya Chalotra).

Yennifer has always been a powerful mage, but her powers were mostly magical. In earlier seasons, she had played a big role in fights and battles, but in Season 4, after losing Tissaia, Yennifer takes the position of a leader, leading the remaining mages to fight Vilgefortz.

Yennifer has finally been given the spotlight to shine in The Witcher Season 4

Cirilla of Cintra, who has the highly precious Elder Blood, is sought by Vilgefortz, Emperor Emhyr, and Leo Bonhart. Vilgefortz wants Ciri because her Elder Blood grants her immense magical powers, which he can use to become the most powerful mage. Emhyr wants her because he believes in a prophecy that says Ciri's child will rule the world, and he wants to make sure it's his son with Ciri who becomes that King. Leo, on the other hand, is looking for Ciri because Stefan Skellen paid Bonhart to kill her and The Rats.

Yennifer and Geralt want to be the first to find her so that none of the people with ill intentions get hold of their daughter and harm her. Thus, in The Witcher Season 4, Yennifer is determined to find and kill Vilgefortz so that he can't use or hurt Ciri to become the most powerful mage. Besides, since very few mages are left after the Battle at Thanedd, if Vilgefortz becomes the most powerful, he will eliminate the remaining mages of the Brotherhood. Hence, Yennifer has to save her daughter and the remaining mages, and thus we see her in full action in The Witcher Season 4.

But she cannot fight Vilgefortz and his army of mages alone. Since Vilgefortz has closed the portals, Yennifer uses other modes of transport to recruit mages for her cause. She convinces Fringilla, Philippa, Triss, Francesca, and others to join her in the fight against Vilgefortz. This time, we don't see Yennifer and the other mages use only their magic. They take the help of Vesemir and other Witchers to learn how to fight physically, and we see Yennifer excel both with her magic and strength. Moreover, Yennifer is the one who leads the resistance against Vilgefortz and his mages.

During the training period, we see her spar with Francesca, and she proves herself to be skilled with a sword. When the Battle of Montecalvo begins, Yennifer fights both with exceptional magic and weaponry. She also uses manipulation with the help of Philippa to fool Vilgefortz. At the end, Yennifer and her fellow mages defeat Vilgefortz's army, but he flees. On the other hand, while trying to destroy the monoliths that summon portals, Istreadd dies, and Vesemir dies in a fight with Vilgefortz.

Yennifer loses fellow mages and novices, but at the end of the day, the resistance manages to eliminate all of Vilgefortz's army. Now he is out there somewhere, plotting. But Yennifer is not done. What we saw her do in Montecalvo was just a glimpse at her actual potential. In The Witcher Season 5, Yennifer will be facing Vilgefortz again, and we will likely see her even more in action, showing her as the fiercely powerful mage she is. This move is for the better, as it finally allows one of the show's main characters other than Geralt to be in action and take charge, further showing that the show is not just about the Witcher, but others, too.

The first four seasons of The Witcher are streaming on Netflix. A fifth and final season is set to be released on Netflix in 2026.
