Agatha Christie created two fictional investigators, Tommy & Tuppence. They make their debut as childhood friends who reunite to work on mysteries together following World War I in The Secret Adversary (1922). Tommy & Tuppence make a great team because Tommy is steady and grounded, and Tuppence is bold and observant.

They develop over the course of five books. This mainly moves from youthful explorers to seasoned sleuths while balancing family life and investigative work, in contrast to Christie's earlier protagonists.

Josh Dylan, Antonia Thomas, and Imelda Staunton, who portrayed Aunt Ada in Harry Potter, are among the cast members of the series. With a fresh viewpoint and a contemporary twist, it offers mystery, romance, and classic Christie intrigue.

More about New Agatha Christie adapted series Tommy & Tuppence

Casting for a new adaptation of Agatha Christie's detective team Tommy & Tuppence has already been determined. Christie's legendary detectives will be reintroduced to a current television audience in the upcoming six-part series, providing a new perspective on the daring squad. The program will begin production later this year and will be produced by BritBox in collaboration with Lookout Point at BBC Studios.

The primary parts will be played by Josh Dylan and Antonia Thomas, as Tommy & Tuppence, respectively. Thomas, known for her appearances in Misfits and The Good Doctor, will provide liveliness to the part of Tuppence, who is described as daring, lively, and unafraid to take on a challenge. Dylan, who has also been in The Buccaneers and Mamma Mia!, will portray Tommy, a careful and contemplative mystery writer who rediscovers his love of adventure via his cooperation with Tuppence.

One of the most renowned writers in the world, Dame Agatha Christie, is the inspiration for the series and Christie, who was born in 1890, rose to fame as the "Queen of Crime.” This is mainly because of her innovative detective books, such as The A.B.C. Murders, Death on the Nile, and Murder on the Orient Express.

Her drama The Mousetrap is still the longest-running theatrical performance in the world, and she is the creator of the renowned investigators Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple and Christie is still the best-selling fiction novelist of all time, having sold over two billion copies of her works.

Imelda Staunton has also joined the cast as Aunt Ada, and as per the storyline, she is a retired private detective and a guiding figure in Tommy’s life and Staunton is widely celebrated for her extensive career on stage and screen, with standout performances in Harry Potter, The Crown, and Paddington. Her involvement brings both star power and depth to the project, giving fans even more reason to look forward to this adaptation.

The series' potential is heightened by the creative team behind it. This is playwright Phoebe Eclair-Powell's first large television drama commission as both writer and executive producer.

Fergus O'Brien (Happy Valley, The Tourist) will helm the first four episodes, with Ellie Heydon (Trying) directing the final two, and the team's objective is to create a series that appears current while remaining true to Christie's clever style, engaging riddles, and vivid characters.

In contrast to other adaptations of Tommy & Tuppence, this rendition updates the tone and style for modern audiences while maintaining the spirit of Christie's original stories, and the unique series is anticipated to highlight the couple's romantic and investigative sides.
