It was recently announced that Stranger Things: Tales From '85 is the latest addition to the Stranger Things canon. An animated show set in the summer of '85, the Duffer brothers revealed some details about this project, set to release in 2026. However, some more details about it were released at the Annecy Animation Festival in France.
Here's everything we know about the upcoming project.
Stranger Things: Tales from '85: Everything we know so far

If there's anything to learn from the past, we have to expect some big reveals at the Annecy Animation Festival, and the Duffer brothers have delivered well. According to the presentation at the festival, as reported by Collider, Stranger Things might be taking our leave on New Year's, but we are not yet finished with our time in Hawkins, Indiana.
In 2026, there will be a brand new animation series on Netflix, as per an announcement from the Duffer Brothers. Details about the animated series have been kept under wraps for a long time, but some new details were released in the presentation. First up, we have an official logline for the show:
"Welcome back to Hawkins in the stark winter of 1985, where the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town in Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an epic new animated series."
The pre-recorded message from the Duffer Brothers before a teaser for Stranger Things: Tales From '85 also revealed that the animated show is trying to recreate the early 80s cartoon vibe, which the brothers grew up watching. It was revealed that the show would be set in the winter of 1985, which falls between Season 2 and Season 3 of Stranger Things, as Season 2 was set in October 1984 and Season 3 in July 1985.
All of the kids, including Mike Wheeler, Eleven, Will Byers, Dustin Henderson, Max Mayfield, Lucas Sinclair, as well as Jim Hopper, were seen in the clip. So, all of them will be seen in Stranger Things: Tales From '85. We don't know at the moment if there will be new actors voicing these characters, or if the original actors, including Millie Bobby Brown, will be the voice actors for the series.

Additionally, a new character called Nikki Baxter was also seen in the clip, so we have one more character to dissect in the new animated series. Nikki is a tinker, and she has short pinkish hair. The clip had a lot of promising updates, including the fact that we will be seeing "new Mysteries" and even more "new monsters". One of which could be an alive pumpkin head, which was seen in the clip.
The clip also revealed some of the locations where the action would be taking place in Stranger Things: Tales From '85, such as Hopper’s house, at their school, in a lab, at the arcade, while riding their bikes, and outside Hawkins National Laboratory.
To wrap things up, the Duffer Brothers are joining this project as executive producers, along with Shaw Levy and Dan Cohen for 21 Laps. Eric Robbes will be showrunner for Stranger Things: Tales From '85, and the Flying Bark studio will be responsible for the CGI animation (not hand-drawn like most of the '80s cartoons). The studio is known for projects such as Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie, Binky Bill, 100% Wolf, and 200% Wolf, among others.
The animated series Stranger Things: Tales From '85 is set to premiere on Netflix in 2026.
