In a surprise twist, New Girl fans have something to celebrate. Jessie Day and Schmidt's characters on New Girl are back together, this time bringing Max Greenfield and Zooey Deschanel into it in animated form.

On Fox, airing May 18th, The Simpsons’ 36th finale will feature Greenfield and Deschanel parodying their New Girl roles in a show within a show called Quirk Girl.

In the clip, Lisa watches her favorite Era of television, the year 2013, on repeat as her screen shows Quirk Girl. Deschanel’s character walks into her apartment to find ‘Schultz’ sitting next to him.

When asked if the dog was Schultz's, his reply was, "I just borrowed him to meet ladies." Like any sitcom, shenanigans follow, such as Schultz getting attacked by the puppy and saying “My finger quote fingers! I am in ‘terrible pain!’” while the character blames “Air quotes” and “in quotes” bandaged fingers.

In an unconventional and unique fun song, Deschanel’s character recalls an instance where she has to sing a few beats while playing Ukulele:

Sometimes a horndog gets bit by a real dog, lalalalala!

Lisa adds, “She made it okay for cute girls to be pretty!” referring to the much straightened cultural affect Jess Day of Deschanel’s character in New Girl.

A welcome return to Springfield for Deschanel

Deschanel has already set foot in the The Simpsons universe. In Season 19, she voiced the character of Mary Spuckler, one of Cletus’ daughters, and returned to the role for two more episodes in Season 24. Her character's return adds to the history of celebrity cameos and television parodies in the series, which masterfully blends satire and pop culture.

Greenfield, recognized for his role as Schmidt on New Girl and currently appearing on The Neighborhood, teams up with Deschanel to create another side-splitting rendition of their dynamic— albeit this time animated and with a sitcom twist.

A finale full of changes—and nostalgia

The last episode of the series “Estranger Things” is not just comedic, it is also deeply emotional due to Marge worrying that Bart and Lisa are drifting apart after they stop watching Itchy & Scratchy together. Additionally, the episode will feature Milhouse’s new voice actor, singer Kelly Macleod, who takes over from a retired Pamela Hayden. Macleod will be featured in a brief scene, marking the dawn of a new era for one of Springfield's sidekicks.

As The Simpsons has been on air for more than 36 years, the show remains a cultural staple, known for its unique style of mixing clever comedy with serious issues. Also, with the additional thrill of nostalgic New Girl parody, the Season 36 sounds funny and is bound to bring tears to the eyes of viewers.

Don't forget to catch The Simpsons' finale on May 18, on FOX, and stream the episodes on Hulu. New Girl is also streamable on Hulu and Peacock.
