The Harry Potter TV series has reportedly begun production in full swing, leading to the internet being flooded with images from the set. It helps that shooting is ongoing at a particularly public place, the London Zoo. This is an extremely important scene from the books, where the Dursley family and Harry go to the zoo to celebrate Dudley's eleventh birthday with some of his friends.
Recent images from the set that have made their way to the internet reveal that the TV series is adopting a very retro 90s vibe for this particular scene from the books. The actors playing Vernon, Petunia, and Dudley Dursley were spotted on set, along with Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter.
Harry Potter TV series' leaked set images reveal a retro 90s aesthetic for the show
The Harry Potter books, particularly the first one, Philosopher's Stone, are set at the start of the 1990s, and the 90s have a very distinct vibe and aesthetic to them, much like any other period.
The HBO show has been very vocal about being a faithful adaptation and delving much deeper into aspects of the source material. So, now that production has started for the TV show, according to an official picture of Dominic McLaughlin in Hogwarts robes, fans are excited to witness the 90s vibe in the TV series.
According to leaked set images, a very public and very important scene from the first book is being shot at the London Zoo, where Harry accidentally releases a snake from his holding, as he has yet to learn how to control his emotional outbursts of magical powers.
The set images also reveal a distinct 90s vibe in the fashion choices made for the Dursleys and Harry, as they are spotted with shell suits, something very prominent in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
A Redditor expressed how immaculate the choices are and what it means for the HBO show in a comment:
"i was not expecting it to be THIS 90’s! and i’m actually absolutely LOVING IT RIGHT NOW!!! these leaks are making me even MORE hyped omg"
Dudley's and Harry's outfit choices in the leaked images are immaculately set in the 90s, leading fans to believe that the Harry Potter show is going to be very accurate this time around.
Petunia Dursley is being played by Bel Powley, naturally a dark-haired actress.
However, the images reveal her as a blonde, as Petunia is in the books, and in an exceptionally Princess Diana-esque hairstyle, something that was very common in the 90s. Her outfit, a striped jumper over her shoulders and pink shorts, just goes to cement the retro aesthetic.
A Redditor sums up Petunia Dursley's vibe in this comment:
"I’m irrationally happy about blonde Petunia. Like I don’t normally care very much about these things but for some reason that has me very jazzed. She also has the same exact haircut that my mom had in the 90s."
The aesthetic choices in the Harry Potter HBO TV series are very distinctly retro and 90s, making fans extremely excited for the upcoming show. HBO has announced that the first season, based on the first book, is set to premiere in 2027 with six episodes. The second season, which will also have six episodes, will be shot back-to-back with the first season.
Potterheads can now rally behind the upcoming series as everything seems to be falling into place for the HBO Harry Potter series.
