The planned HBO fantasy series A Knight of Seven Kingdoms, the Game of Thrones prequel, is based on George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg. It follows Ser Duncan the Tall. As per the storyline, he is a loving and compassionate knight, and his young squire, Aegon "Egg" Targaryen, is set many years before Game of Thrones.

Dexter Sol Ansell portrays Egg in the show. The cast list also includes Peter Claffey as Dunk, and the six-episode series premieres on January 18, 2026. Filming took place in Northern Ireland in 2024, and HBO has already issued a few videos, posters, and previews. This has been done to build anticipation for the show's premiere.

Recently, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms got a makeover. It mainly highlights the show's modest and intimate vibe. This is done by showing Ser Duncan and his squire Egg next to a horse in simple cloaks. The show, which emphasizes camaraderie and adventure, will debut on HBO Max on January 18, 2026.

More about A Knight of Seven Kingdoms, the Game of Thrones prequel

HBO has released a new look for Game of Thrones' most recent prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The show focuses on a more intimate, smaller plot. It takes place more than a century before the events of the first series.

The graphics of the new look depict the two main characters, Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire Egg, standing beside a horse in a medieval setting, both wearing simple cloaks.

This emphasizes the show's focus on a humble, personal subject, and the series will broadcast on HBO Max on January 18, 2026. This new look takes fans into the world of Westeros long before Game of Thrones. This concentrates on friendship, adventure, and the emergence of a noble knight.

The story revolves around Ser Duncan the Tall. He is also known as Dunk and is a modest hedge knight attempting to prove his worth. He is accompanied by Egg, who is his young squire and a secret member of the Targaryen family. In a culture still shaped by dragon memories, their journey delves into friendship, bravery, and commitment.

Dunk is played by Peter Claffey, and Egg is played by Dexter Sol Ansell. Sam Spruell portrays Prince Maekar Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen, and Henry Ashton as Prince Daeron Targaryen. Tanzyn Crawford, Danny Webb, Steve Wall, Daniel Monks, Ross Anderson, Edward Ashley, Shaun Thomas, Youssef Kerkour, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor are among the cast members.

The show was co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker, with Parker acting as showrunner. Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw are among the executive producers. Owen Harris and Sarah Adina Smith are directing the six-episode season. They promise intriguing stories, intricate world-building, and excellent production values.

Unlike previous Game of Thrones installments, this series will not include magic or dragons. Instead, it emphasizes medieval battles, political intrigue, and the growth of noble families.
