It isn't often that one episode inspires a whole series, but such is the tale for Marvel Zombies. The series, described as a 4-episode TV event with a Mature Audience rating, stands apart from most of the Marvel projects.
With the exception of a few series such as Deadpool & Wolverine, Echo, and Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel doesn't have much content with an MA rating. But, considering the promos with a grotesque Captain America among the many heroes set to return as zombies, it's clear that Marvel is not holding back on the gore for this one.
Nevertheless, here's everything we know about the upcoming animated release from Marvel, titled Marvel Zombies.
Disney+ reveals an earlier release date for Marvel Zombies

Marvel Zombies is a spin-off from Season 1, Episode 5 of the animated series What If...?. The original episode, titled What If...Zombies!? was set in an alternate MCU universe where an apocalyptic zombie outbreak forced the remaining heroes of Earth to come together in order to find a cure, while some of the heroes that the audience has loved for years are turned into flesh-eating zombies. The popularity of that episode led to an almost immediate announcement of a spin-off miniseries.
Original announcements from Disney regarding Marvel Phase 6 revealed that Marvel Zombies might've been released on October 3, 2025, in the month of horror and Halloween. However, according to recent confirmations, the series is set for a September 24 release. Even if the four episodes are released all together or one by one, the finale won't be anywhere close to Halloween.

Nevertheless, the animated series might be described as a 4-episode event, but it manages to pack quite a punch in these episodes with the entry of multiple heroes. The original episode followed heroes of the Earth, including Spider-Man, Bucky Barnes, Bruce Banner, The Wasp, Okoye, and more, coming together to find the cure. However, many are lost during the 31-minute episode, which ends with almost no hope as a zombie version of Thanos stands with an Infinity Gauntlet that is almost complete.
Marvel Zombies might be picking up exactly after the events of the What If...Zombies!? episode, but with many new surviving heroes joining us on the quest for the cure. According to sources, heroes including Shang-Chi, the Red Guardian, Katy, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Ms. Marvel, Ironheart, and Moon Knight will be joining the surviving heroes from the episode.

With unchecked gore and complete carnage in store, Marvel Zombies doesn't forget the character-driven storytelling or the part where your loved heroes die a grisly and horrifying death.
Nevertheless, don't forget to tune in to Disney+ on September 24, 2025, for this horror event in four parts.
