The penultimate season of The Witcher, Season 4, is currently in post-production and set to release in 2025. However, even before Season 4 releases, a casting update for the fifth and final season is creating buzz for the Netflix show, which is an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's books of the same name.
Netflix previously announced that the fourth and fifth seasons of The Witcher would be shot back-to-back and cover three books in the series: Baptism of Fire, Lady of the Lake, and The Tower of the Swallow. A casting update regarding the conclusive chapter of the series has sparked theories about the return of a fan-favorite character. Here's what we know so far.
The Witcher reportedly casts a fan-favorite Toussaint for the final season
The Witcher Seasons 4 and 5 are reportedly being shot one after the other. With shooting for Season 4 having concluded, it is set to release in 2025. According to reports, the first half of the final season has already been shot, and the shooting for the second block is set to conclude in September 2025.
According to reports from Redanian Intelligence, a new casting is set to bring a fan-favorite character from the books to life for the second block of episodes. Reportedly, Andy Apollo has been cast as the Toussaint knight Reynart de Bois-Fresnes.

In Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher books, Reynard de Bois-Fresnes is a minor but impactful fan-favorite character. According to the books, he is bound by a knightly vow whereby he refuses to reveal his name or coat of arms until he takes down 15 marauders by Yule in December. His vow leads him to his first encounter with Geralt of Rivia, under the alias "the Checkerboard Knight."
Geralt saves him and helps his companions in an attack at Caed Myrkvid. Afterwards, Reynart turns into a companion and friend to Geralt and later comes to his defense as well. His presence is a highlight of knighthood and companionship in the Witcher universe.
Even though it is unclear at the moment how much of the storyline from the books Season 5 chooses to adapt, the return of this impactful character is good news enough for fans of the books and the show, because this casting means that Toussaint will be included as a setting for The Witcher Season 5. According to previous reports, the production for the Netflix series traveled to South Africa with its lush vineyards and beautiful mountains.
What to expect from the final seasons of The Witcher

The Witcher Season 4 is all set to bring forth a new era for the series as Liam Hemsworth takes up the mantle put down by Henry Cavill and plays Geralt of Rivia in the final two seasons of the series. Here's what Hemsworth said about the role that he's taking up:
"As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure"
He added
"I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world."
Even though we are yet to receive a release date for Season 4, it is set to release sometime in late 2025, after which we hopefully won't have to wait too long for the final season.
