Jensen Ackles was first seen in Tracker season one as Russell Shaw, the protagonist Colter Shaw's estranged older brother. He was also seen briefly in season two, and as TVLine reports, Jensen Ackles will be returning as Russell Shaw in Tracker season three as well.

Ackles has had a busy year. He starred as the protagonist of Countdown, Mark Meachum, and is set to return as Soldier Boy in The Boys season 5. He is also going to be appearing as Ben/Soldier Boy in the upcoming The Boys spin-off, Vought Rising. Despite that, Ackles was able to work on Tracker season three, as TVLine revealed through an exclusive first-look image.

Jensen Ackles will be returning for Tracker season three

It is not easy to find out that your mother tried to cause issues between you and your brother and was also the one responsible for your father's death. But nevertheless, that is what Colter will be going through at the beginning of Tracker season three. Thus, it is the perfect moment to bring back his brother, Russell, to help make sense of what happened two decades ago.

Besides, Mary made Colter believe Russell was the one responsible for Ashton's death, raising the question as to why a mother would do such a thing. Many questions remain unanswered, and hopefully, the Shaw brothers will find their answers in season three, which premieres on October 19, 2025.

As TVLine reported, Jensen Ackles is set to appear in the first two episodes of the upcoming season, which will air on CBS on October 19th and 26th, 2025, respectively.

The first episode, The Process, as TVLine reports, has the following logline:

As Colter grapples with the shocking truth surrounding his father’s death, Russell joins forces with his brother to help track down the missing wife and daughter of one of Reenie’s clients. Their reunion finds them mixed up in a chain of events involving a sinister underground operation known as ‘The Process.’

Elwood Reid, the Tracker showrunner, spoke to TVLine about Jensen Ackles' return to the show, saying,

"Jensen is gainfully employed at Amazon [on Countdown and The Boys prequel, Vought Rising], but we’ll take as much of him as we can get,”

Reid continued,

“He and I go back because we worked on Big Sky together. He’s got a very, very busy schedule, but I was able to plug him into this hole, and he came up here and did two episodes for me. He’s amazing. I just got done editing Episode 2, and [he and Justin Hartley] are so good together. It’s so much fun."

While Jensen Ackles has been confirmed to be returning, some cast members will not be returning to Tracker season three. Eric Graise, who played Bobby, and Abby McEnany, who played Velma, were regulars on the show. But for season two, as TVLine reports, from season three, Graise and McEnany will no longer be part of the show. Justin Hartley will be joined by only Fiona Rene, as Reenie Green.

Tracker season three will be released on October 19, 2025, on CBS and will later be available for streaming on Peacock.
