ABC has officially greenlit a new Scrubs revival for its 2025–2026 lineup, and fans couldn’t be more pumped. The network isn’t just bringing the show back; it’s bringing back the heart of it. Zach Braff, who played J.D.; Donald Faison, who played Turk; and Sarah Chalke, who played Elliot, are all set to reprise their iconic roles and they’re also on the executive team alongside original showrunner Bill Lawrence.

The official synopsis for the new show reads,

“JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time- medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.”

All the stars have always supported the show's return on screen, as Lawrence stated in 2022 during the ATX Festival session,

“If you ever have an excuse to work with people you want to spend time with anyway, run to it.”

Faison, who is returning as Turk, added,

"We all would love to work together again. (But) it can't be a full season of a show. It would have to be a movie or something like that."

With Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra returning as showrunners, this reboot seems poised to honor what made the original so special while moving boldly forward.

Scrubs premiered in October 2001, created by Bill Lawrence, and took us inside the chaotic world of Sacred Heart Hospital. But unlike the hyper-dramatic dramas of all, Scrubs followed John “J.D.” Dorian, played by Zach Braff, an overthinking intern whose wild daydreams and anxious inner monologue pretty much carried the show.

Joining him were Sarah Chalke as Dr. Elliot Reid, Donald Faison as Dr. Chris Turk, Neil Flynn as The Janitor, Ken Jenkins as Dr. Bob Kelso, John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox, and Judy Reyes as Nurse Carla Espinosa.

Scrubs has been highly regarded as one of the most loved medical shows on television. With most hospital-based shows taking a more dramatic tone, Scrubs was a fresh addition as a sitcom that was also rooted in realism with everything medicine.

The show was nominated for seventeen Emmy awards and won two out of them. Among the cast, Braff has received widespread acclaim for his role, bringing in fourteen award nominations, including three Golden Globe awards and an Emmy.

The show wrapped up beautifully in season eight with "My Finale," a well-acclaimed, satisfying send-off. But then came season nine, which brought in new characters, a new narrator, and a new tone. The season followed a newly built Sacred Heart, with the old cast members working as medical professors. Although it still had a few appearances from the old characters, the ninth season dropped in terms of ratings and reviews, and was the last season of the show.

As the reboot gets confirmed, fans can finally rejoice at the return of their favorite cast and creators as Sacred Heart gets lively again.

More details about the Scrubs reboot are awaited for now.
