Baywatch was a classic drama series that aired on NBC from 1989 to 1990, and then it was syndicated for the next ten more seasons, which ran till 2001. Starring David Hasselhoff, Jeremy Jackson, Michael Newman, Brooke Burns, Jason Momoa, and Pamela Anderson, among others, the show was widely popular across countries and remains a fan favorite even today.
As Deadline reports, the show has been rebooted and will be back on Fox during the 2026-2027 broadcast season.
Baywatch reboot
The original Baywatch was created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz, and Gregory J. Bonann, who will be returning to executive produce the reboot along with Dante Di Loreto and Matt Nix. Nix is also the writer and showrunner behind the reboot. The reboot will be produced by Fremantle and Fox Entertainment and air on Fox. It is set to start with a twelve-episode season.

Much like the original show, the Baywatch reboot will be following lifeguards, their personal and professional lives, romances, and the drama that accompanies them. While the original show starred David Hasselhoff as Mitch Buchannon, Brooke Burns as Jessie Owens, Michael Bergin as J. D. Darius, Jason Momoa as Jason Ioane, and Pamela Anderson as C. J. Parker in major roles, the reboot will feature a new cast. The details of the new cast are yet to be revealed.
The reboot will also make sure Fox airs a lifeguard drama soon, after they canceled Rescue Hi-Surf in May 2025, after just one season. The reboot will be set in Southern California, but it is not yet known whether it will be filmed in Southern California like the original show initially was, before it moved to Hawaii for the last two seasons. Besides, the decision regarding the location of filming will highly depend on whether the reboot gets a tax credit from California. Australia is also a location considered for filming.
As Deadline reports, Freemantle's CEO of Global Drama, Christian Vesper, spoke about the reboot, saying,
“Baywatch has always been a treasured asset in Fremantle’s portfolio and remains one of the most iconic series in television history globally. We have found the perfect partners in Fox to help us maintain this legacy. With Matt Nix at the helm, we are in great hands, as he excels at telling engaging and entertaining stories,”
She continued,
“Our goal is to reconnect with existing fans while also introducing a new generation to the world of these famous lifeguards.”
Baywatch was a classic when it aired almost three decades ago, and a reboot will introduce the world of the show to a newer generation, while also entertaining old fans. The original show is streaming on Prime Video. The reboot will air on Fox during the 2026-2027 broadcast season. Stay tuned for more information.
