Bowen Yang bids farewell to SNL with a heartfelt message

Bowen Yang's exit from Saturday Night Live has been one of the biggest emotional farewells the show has seen in years, as the actor slash comedian is leaving the comedy show after seven years of being a part of it. Yang will appear on SNL for the last time this Saturday on December 20, alongwith Wicked co-star Ariana Grande and musical guest Cher.

Taking to Instagram, the actor penned a heartfelt note to his fans, acknowledging everyone he has worked with on the show, bidding farewell to seven years of work on SNL. His message read,

“I loved working at SNL, and most of all I loved the people. I was there at a time when many things in the world started to seem futile, but working at 30 rock taught me the value in showing up anyway when people make it worthwhile.”

He then continued to list a few names he has worked with on the show, as he added,

“Thank you to every single person who showed up there: friends and coworkers and audiences and hosts. Thank you Celeste, Sudi, Will, Alison, Julio, Fran, Drez, Bulla, Marty, John, Ben, Jimmy, Ceara, Deetch, Jake, Asha, Jack, Auguste, tucker, Kent, Streeter, James, Alex, Jasmine, Gary, and Billy for writing with me. Thank you to every cast member for making me laugh and cry. To Liz and don. Tom, Jodi, Louie, Eamon. Gena, Chris, Eddie. The crews, the pages. And to Audrey, Jameson, Cassandra and Chris for the fastest, funnest quick-changes in all of showbiz. Thank you to Ari for sending me off in the dreamiest way i could imagine.”

Bowen Yang joined the writing staff of Saturday Night Live in 2018, and in the last years he has evolved from a behind-the-scenes talent into a cornerstone of the show's landmark fiftieth season. In 2019, he joined the cast and became the program's first Chinese-American cast member and one of the arre openly gay members in it's history. With that being said, he also became a fan favorite, being a part of some of the show's most loved skits. He was also nominated for multiple Primetime Emmy.

One of Bowen Yang's most known segments on the show is the Weekend Update, where he creates characters that defy traditional sketch logic. Some fan favories include Chen Trade Daddy Biao, and the bitter iceberg that sank the Titanic. More iconic roles include Moo Deng and his impressions of figures like George Santos, JD Vance and Fran Lebowitz.
