Desperate Housewives fans, assemble! The cult classic mystery comedy drama is returning in a new avatar as Disney’s Onyx Collective has begun developing its reboot series. A reimagination of the original, the new show is titled Wisteria Lane, based on the street's name where the friends lived.
However, the original star cast is not returning for the show, and instead, Wisteria Lane will focus on a new set of five friends who live on the eponymous street and deal with their daily struggles while hiding some dark secrets.
The project is being developed by executive producers Kerry Washington and Natalie Chaidez, with the latter also serving as a writer. Desperate Housewives originally aired from 2004 to 2012 and reached new heights of popularity, becoming one of the most popular TV shows of the 21st century.
Desperate Housewives reboot, Wisteria Lane, is in development at Onyx Collective

Wisteria Lane is going to share thematic similarities with Desperate Housewives, making it a blend of mystery, drama, and black comedy. The show is set to focus on five friends who live on the affluent titular street and seem to have the perfect family lives in their lavish homes. However, behind their fake smiles are some hidden secrets. The official logline reads:
“[The show is] a fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery in the vein of Desperate Housewives, set among a group of five very different friends and sometimes frenemies who all live on a picture-perfect cul de sac called ‘Wisteria Lane.’”
“On the surface, all the Wisteria neighbors are living the dream: beautiful homes, gorgeous families, shiny SUVs in the driveway. But behind those white-picket fences and smiling Insta posts are SECRETS.”
The cast for the new show has not been announced yet. It is being produced by Simpson Street and 20th Television. Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, is not attached to the project as of now, but as per sources quoted by Deadline, he might get involved in the show in some capacity in the future.
The original show starred Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, and Nicollette Sheridan as five friends, whose neighbor, Mary Alice Young, took her own life. The story was told through Young’s perspective, who saw the women’s lives spiral out of control.
The series premiered on ABC in 2004 and soon became a part of pop culture. It ended in 2012 after eight successful seasons. Ever since, fans have been demanding a revival of the show, and even cast members have expressed their interest in returning for a reboot.
However, the new show has taken a different approach by basing the premise around a fresh set of characters. Wisteria Lane will be streaming on Hulu, but its production and release dates have not been announced as of now.
