Just after it's release, Dune:Prophecy became one of HBO's boldest science fiction ventures that dived deeper into the mythos of Frank Herbert's sprawling universe long before Paul Atreides ever walked on Arrakis. Created by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker, the latter of whom served as both the showrunner and writer, the show explores the roots of Bene Gesserit, the secretive sisterhood whose power stretches across religion, politics and human evolution itself.

The series premiered on HBO on November 17, 2024, and was met with strong acclaim for its world-building, performances, and haunting atmosphere. A month later, HBO announced the renewal of the show, making way for Dune: Prophecy Season 2 during a virtual press event featuring Schapker and stars Watson and Williams. Max original programming head, Sarah Aubrey spoke about the second season in a statement and said,

“’Dune: Prophecy’ has captivated audiences around the globe thanks to the visionary leadership of showrunner and executive producer Alison Schapker, who will continue to guide this grand tale of truth and power. We are incredibly grateful to our partners at Legendary and to our extraordinary cast and crew for their service to the Imperium. We’re excited to collaborate with this team again to see what they have in store.”

Dune: Prophecy Season 2 promises to delve even deeper into the sisterhood’s survival and the growing tensions between the Harkonnen siblings, portrayed by Watson and Williams, as they continue to forge the foundations of the Bene Gesserit order. Travis Fimmel’s Desmond Hart will remain a key figure, with his complex relationship with the sisters driving much of the new conflict.
