Emmanuel Macron has officially welcomed Emily in Paris creator Darren Star into one of France’s most exclusive cultural circles. The creator has been awarded the Legion of Honor, recognizing the American show for reshaping how Paris is seen, sold, and romanticized across the globe.

Star’s glossy vision of the city has traveled far beyond the Seine, turning cafés, couture, and cobblestone streets into international fantasy fuel. The show has garnered global acclaim and is currently on its way to its fifth season.

As Variety reported, Macron referred to Star as,

"a creator of iconic shows that make millions of viewers laugh, dream and even understand themselves a little better.”

He also addressed the show's viewing hours being a billion, showing its popularity among fans.

Calling Starr's love letter to France, Macron added,

“You, who always dreamt of living in Paris. You, who share with Emily a love for our architecture, our history, our fashion, our gastronomy. You make France shine across the world. In every episode signed Darren Star, the City of Light sparkles — as do Champagne, Normandy, the Riviera and the Alps — making these places come alive just as vividly as the characters on screen."

Emily in Paris had quite a cultural impact on Paris, increasing tourists and admirers for the European city in what is called "the Emily effect."
