The Flash is a television series that aired on The CW between October 2014 to May 2023, spanning nine seasons. Grant Gustin played the titular fast-moving superhero in this Arrow spin-off. Ahead of the release of Superman, there has been reportedly buzz around it and the DC Universe that James Gunn has created.

Gustin recently spoke about his plans to join the DC Universe. But he has one condition: he will only return to play a certain character. When the question was posed to him, the actor responded with just one word:

"Flash."

So let us explore more about this.

Grant Gustin reveals he will only play Flash in James Gunn's DC Universe

Grant Gustin recently attended the Fan Expo in Denver. According to ScreenRant, one audience member asked him which role he would play in James Gunn's DC Universe.

"If James Gunn cast you in his DCU, who would you want to play?"

In response, the actor said one word:

"Flash"

The Flash remains the longest-running television show in the entire Arrowverse. In December last year, James Gunn made it clear that there are no Flash films currently in development. While the DC Studios head is unsure about the future, Gustin's comments showcase that he is still interested in reprising the character. But looking at how Gunn has been doing an overhaul of the DC Universe, it's likely that they will cast a new actor if a new movie is made in the future.

Meanwhile, Gunn is gearing up for Superman, which will be the first entry in his newly established DC Universe and Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The film has David Corenswet as the titular Man of Steel while Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane. Written, directed, and produced by Gunn, the film will get its theatrical release on July 11, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Chapter One will also include Supergirl, where Milly Alcock will be the protagonist. It is scheduled to release on June 26, 2026. Other entries include Clayface, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, and Swamp Thing, as well as an untitled film on Wonder Woman. Additionally, there will also be television shows under the DCU like Creature Commandos, Peacemaker Season 2, Lanterns, and Waller.

Would you be interested in seeing Gustin returning as the fast-moving superhero? For now, we will have to wait and see how this character gets included in the expanding DCU.
