Ben Stiller's sci-fi psychological thriller show Severance, centering on the infamous (fictional) Lumon Industries, concluded its second season earlier in March, but excitement among the audience still seems to be the same. With record-breaking streaming numbers on Apple TV and commendable RT scores, the Adam Scott starrer still continues to be among the top trending spots.
Recently, while on an interview with Variety, showrunner Ben Stiller was asked whether Severance will have any spin-offs in the future. To this, the Emmy-winning actor and filmmaker has given a positive response, saying, "possible spinoffs have already been discussed 'internally.'" To quote his exact words:
"There are two specific ideas — that I won’t tell you — that we’ve talked about internally as possible spinoff ideas."
Ben Stiller drops exciting update on potential Severance spinoffs
Per Variety, Severance helmer Ben Stiller has teased potential Severance spinoffs, though he did not want to share a lot of details. Ideas are already being cooked by the creative team. With Apple TV having already renewed the famous sci-fi show for a third season, Stiller's latest comments look quite promising.
In the same interview, he was further asked about how developed the spinoff ideas are so far. To this, Stiller replied:
"They're nascent."
Though it is confirmed that the franchise is moving forward, Stiller's latest statement does not indicate a spinoff yet. Season 3 of Severance is currently in production, and its status remains unknown, as Ben Stiller, per Variety, reportedly mentioned:
"I don’t want to talk about where we’re at in our process."
According to Variety, lead star Adam Scott has recently opened up about the Apple TV series' success and how things changed for him afterward. The 52-year-old star mentioned that 'walking down the street' was not the same for him anymore.
Fans are always discussing the show and its many theories, and they always scream at Scott whenever they spot him in public. To quote his exact words:
"It’s certainly different walking down the street. Every 10 steps, someone has to talk about the show. People are yelling at me from their cars. And in a bakery, there was a cookie with my face on it."
It has also been learned that a show that now stands to be one of the biggest successes for Apple TV and its creative team was once almost on the verge of getting rejected. No other studio, "except Apple," as mentioned by Ben Stiller to Variety, was ready to take up the script and work on it. However, as time passed, a difficult pitch eventually materialized into a one-in-a-million TV show.
