When Helen Mirren took up the challenge of playing Cara Dutton in 1923, audiences were excited to see the acclaimed actress’ foray into the Western genre. She did full justice to the role of the matriarch and made the character immortal with her performance.

However, 1923 finished its planned run of two seasons recently, leaving fans wanting more. Helen Mirren has now talked about whether she is willing to return to the Yellowstone universe.

In an interview with Gold Derby, the actress said that while she would love to play Cara Dutton again, her story arc has come to an end, and hence, she can not return to the Western franchise created by Taylor Sheridan,

“I'd love to revisit Cara, but you know that's not going to happen. The great thing about [1923] is there's a beginning, a middle, and an end.”

Helen Mirren added that while her return does not seem plausible in the Yellowstone world, she would still love to work with Taylor Sheridan, possibly on a different project. Highlighting how the series creator is a master in writing dialogue, she said:

“I would love to work with Taylor again, in a different manifestation. Absolutely. I would always love to work with him. For an actor, we deal in words, and words is what Taylor does so very, very well.”

Mirren also talked about how she agreed to be a part of 1923, along with her co-star Harrison Ford, without even reading the script. The actress revealed Sheridan likes to write characters based on the actors he has cast, and not vice versa:

“Both Harrison and I, for the first time in our lives, had to commit without reading a single word of the characters or the story or anything. Because Taylor said he likes to write for the actor that he's got, he likes to write knowing who he's writing for, which I thought was very interesting.”

The veteran actress has been a part of the entertainment industry since the 1960s and has several accomplishments to her name. Some of her famous film credits include The Queen, Gosford Park, and Golda.

In May 2022, she was cast as Cara Dutton in 1923, which focused on an earlier generation of the Duttons who endeavored to protect their ranch at the time of the Great Depression, Prohibition, and drought. The show became one of the most watched programs on Paramount+ and concluded airing its second and final season in April 2025.
