Malcolm In The Middle is coming back to the television screens after almost two decades. The hit Fox sitcom, which concluded airing in 2006, is getting a revival mini-series on Disney+.
What makes the revival special is that the main cast members will be reprising their roles and will once again entertain the audience with their iconic performances, from Frankie Muniz as Malcolm to Bryan Cranston as his father, Hal.
Cranston recently opened up about returning to the series, revealing that he missed playing the character of Hal. In an interview with People Magazine, the actor described the experience of working in the Malcolm In The Middle revival as "rewarding":
“Slipping back into that character of Hal for me was so rewarding — I missed him. It’s been almost 20 years since we said goodbye. And he’s a sweet, lovable man. He’s really a lovable guy, and it was fun to see all my whole family back together. It was great.”
Bryan Cranston talks about reprising his role as Hal in Malcolm In The Middle revival
The Malcolm In The Middle reboot miniseries recently finished filming after a month-long schedule. This is the first time Bryan Cranston will be playing Hal since the original show’s conclusion in 2006. During the interview, the actor also talked about what helped him step back into his character after all these years and said:
“It’s a short-sleeve shirt that Hal would wear, a patterned short-sleeve shirt that screams out he’s not going anywhere.”
Before his career-defining performance as Walter White in Breaking Bad, Cranston was known for his comic chops in Malcolm In The Middle. The original sitcom aired seven seasons on Fox from 2000 to 2006. It told the story of a dysfunctional family, with Frankie Muniz playing the titular role of a child prodigy.
Hal is his loving but immature father, and Lois, played by Jane Kaczmarek, is his intelligent but stubborn mother. In the reboot, Malcolm is all grown up and has a daughter. They join Hal and Lois for their 40th wedding anniversary celebration, but chaos erupts as the family gets together.
Frankie Muniz and Jane Kaczmarek are reprising their roles in the new miniseries. Other actors from the original show who are returning include Christopher Masterson as Francis and Justin Berfield as Reese. On the other hand, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark has replaced Erik Per Sullivan as Dewey, and Anthony Timpano has replaced twins James and Lukas Rodriguez as Jamie.
The new additions to the cast include Keeley Karsten as Malcolm's daughter, Leah; Kiana Madeira as Malcolm's girlfriend, Tristan; and Vaughan Murrae as Hal and Lois' youngest child, Kelly. The show will feature only four episodes and is expected to premiere on Disney+ in December 2025.
