According to an official report by Deadline, Nicholas Cage is in talks to headline HBO's True Detective Season 5, the anthology crime drama series that was earlier renewed for another season after a successful Season 4 led by Oscar winner Jodie Foster.

HBO’s Head of Drama Series and Film, Francesca Orsi, earlier revealed that Season 5 will be set in New York, in Jamaica Bay. Filming for True Detective's upcoming season is expected to begin in 2026, with a 2027 release window slated for the new season.

Issa Lopez will return as showrunner and teased True Detective Season 5 in an interview with The New York Post as:

“There’s going to be some important connections between everything that happens in Ennis, Alaska, and the characters in Ennis, Alaska, and what happens in the new [season]. That said, it’s a new story, new characters, everything.”

Actor Nicholas Cage will take on a new thrilling case in Jamaica Bay in HBO's crime series. While the details about Nicholas Cage's character in True Detective Season 5 are being kept under tight wraps, the actor will reportedly play the role of Henry Logan, the lead New York detective at the heart of this season's case.

The anthology series has featured several A-listers in previous seasons, starting with Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson in the first season and Colin Farrell & Mahershala Ali in Seasons 2 and 3, respectively. All leads earned Emmy nominations for their respective seasons.

Jodie Foster, who played the lead Detective Liz Danvers in Night Country (Season 4), won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for her performance. In addition, True Detective Season 4 is said to have revived the series, becoming the most-watched season and gaining 12.7 million cross-platform viewers.

The most celebrated actor of all time, Cage won the Academy Award for his film Leaving Las Vegas and was also nominated for Adaptation in the same category. He is best known for his lead roles in movies like World Trade Center, Ghost Rider franchise, Astro Boy, and Moonstruck.

Recently, Cage has appeared in films like The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Arcadian. In addition, Nicholas Cage is also set to headline his first television series, where he will play Spider-Man noir in an upcoming (and untitled) series for Amazon and MGM Studios.

In an interview with Deadline, Orsi teased Season 5 as:

“Issa has a lot to say, not unlike she did with Night Country. It’s a different milieu but just as powerful.”

True Detective Season 5 is slated for a 2027 release on HBO.
