When Happy Days aired in the 1970s, it became one of the most popular sitcoms on television. The story of teenagers set in the nostalgic world of the 1950s and ‘60s connected emotionally with the audience and made the show a success.

The series, starring Ron Howard in the lead role of Richie Cunningham, aired for 11 seasons between 1974 and 1984, and led to several spin-offs. With its multiple reruns, the show also became popular among the newer generation of the audience, which led to conversations about its revival.

However, Ron Howard has made it clear that a Happy Days reboot is not on the cards. In an interview with People, the actor said he is happy with the love and appreciation received by the show, but the team is not going to revive the series:

“It's amazing, but we're not doing a reboot. The fact that the show endures, and that The Andy Griffith Show is still on – both of these shows have never left the air – and it kind of blows my mind in an interesting way. There's something about that that doesn't age – it was nostalgia when it was made.”

Ron Howard confirms a Happy Days reboot is not going to happen

The recent years have seen a trend of a revival of old shows. From Fraiser and Roseanne to That '70s Show and Malcolm in the Middle, a number of sitcoms have found their way back to television in a new avatar, thanks to their popularity and audience demand.

However, Ron Howard has confirmed that Happy Days will not go down the same path. The actor believes that the show should be left the way it was, as it was full of nostalgia for the 1950s, and should not be touched again for a revival.

Ron was 19 years old when he started playing Richie Cunningham in Happy Days and became a household name. However, he left the show after seven seasons to pursue his passion for direction. He has since directed films like Apollo 13, In the Heart of the Sea, Rush, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Meanwhile, he has stayed connected with Henry Winkler, who played his friend Arthur 'Fonzie' Fonzarelli in Happy Days. Talking about their friendship and how he enjoyed working with Henry, Ron said in his interview:

“Henry's a few years older than I am. Yale educated, and he looked at acting in a way that was — it wasn't Hollywood. It was a little more intellectual. It was theater-based, and that was new to me. But more than anything, we just got along beautifully and worked well together.”
