HBO released the official IT: Welcome to Derry episode 7 promo that hints at what the next episode will mostly be about: Pennywise's origin. The sixth episode follows the fallout from the fifth episode, which saw the kids and army enter the Derry sewers with two separate missions. Hank Grogan also escaped in the fifth episode during his transfer from Derry to Shawshank prison.

Thus, the sixth episode reveals that Hank is hiding temporarily in The Black Spot, with the plan being to help him escape Derry. But in the closing minutes of the episode, we see the racist group, The Legion of White Decency, invading Dick Hallorann's bar. But since there are two more episodes left, IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 7 might focus on Pennywise's origin.

The IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 7 promo may hint at a flashback-heavy episode:

The promo begins in 1908, where we see Bob Gray/Pennywise, but before the evil entity took his form. This is seen in the thumbnail of the video itself, as Pennywise's makeup is not demonic, like we see. Thus, this episode is where we will either see IT devouring Bob Gray or possess his body, as his daughter suggests.

However, we may also get some scenes of the present inside The Black Spot. We see the racist group demanding that the bar patrons hand over Hank Grogan as the army men and the racist group point guns at each other. But the biggest speculation about the upcoming Welcome to Derry episode is that we may see the bond between Bob Gray and Ingrid.

IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 6 confirms the connection between Ingrid Kersh and Pennywise:

Episode six revealed that Lilly's friend and Juniper Hill's head of housekeeping, Ingrid, is none other than Ingrid Kersh. Now, this episode has another major revelation: before marrying Stanley Kersh, she was Ingrid Gray, Bob Gray's daughter. She believes that her father is possessed by the evil entity rather than recognizing that he is dead.

The episode also confirms that she willingly sent some children to Pennywise just to meet the entity she believes to be her father. The episode 7 promo also features a scene where Bob Gray teaches young Ingrid to practice her Periwinkle the clown moves.

The sixth episode further confirms that sometimes, it was Periwinkle rather than Pennywise who stalked the kids. Thus, the upcoming episode will expand upon Ingrid Kersh/Gray's backstory. But one thing is sure: Welcome to Derry is expanding upon Pennywise's back story. In the book, Pennywise and the spider forms are closest to what humans can perceive IT.

However, the Muschiettis have made an interesting change to the beloved Stephen King book by introducing a human element to Pennywise's backstory.

The seventh episode of IT: Welcome to Derry, "The Black Spot", will be released next Sunday, December 7, 2025.
