Anthony Mackie is all set to grace the silver screens soon with Captain America: Brave New World. The actor returns as the superhero after playing the character in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
However, fans have noticed a visible difference in the superhero's costume from the show. In the upcoming film, Sam Wilson has gotten rid of his white half-helmet mask, which was given to him as a gift by Wakanda at the end of the miniseries.
Anthony Mackie has now opened up about the costume change, revealing it was his own decision to drop the mask since he had a hard time wearing it during the shoot of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Anthony Mackie says he got the half-helmet mask dropped from his costume in Captain America: Brave New World
In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series finale, Wakanda presents Sam Wilson with a white half-helmet mask attached to red goggles. However, Captain America: Brave New World trailer shows him wearing only the signature goggles without any cowl.
In an interview with IGN, Anthony Mackie was asked why his character is missing the cowl in the film. The actor replied he asked the production team to get rid of the mask. Mackie said the sweat and fog caused by the mask were like a nightmare to him and he was unable to perform in it properly. The actor stated:
“Because I told them that I was never wearing that s**** again, dude. That was hard. With the heat, the sweat, the fogged-up glasses, it was impossible. It was called a cowl. It was my worst nightmare. You can’t do anything.”
While the cowl has been dropped, Sam Wilson has switched to the classic blue, white, and red Captain America suit in the film, which is reminiscent of Chris Evans’ superhero costume.
Captain America: Brave New World marks the fourth installment in the Captain America film series and the 35th film in the overall MCU. The movie pitches Sam against Thaddeus Ross, a newly elected president, who turns into the Red Hulk.
The official synopsis of the film reads:
“After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.”
Along with Anthony Mackie, the film stars Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross, Danny Ramirez as Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Copperhead, Xosha Roquemore as Leila Taylor, Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph, Giancarlo Esposito as Sidewinder, and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns.
