Brad Winderbaum has some brand new updates on everything happening inside Marvel's television realm, dropping major spoilers for X-Menβ97 Season 2 and who will be a part of the continuation. Released in 2024, Beau DeMayo's animated series served as a revival to the original show that aired in the 90s. With one successful season and two more follow-up seasons confirmed, X-Men'97 is looking steadily ahead towards it's second season.
Winderbaum, who is the head of streaming, television, and animation and serves as an executive producer for the studio made sure to drop a few bombshells on the upcoming shows that are being brewed inside Marvel. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about what fans can expect in the new season, Brad told the outlet,
"Well, first and foremost, it's actually the entire creative team. Same director, same producers, same cast, many of the same writers, and it's standing on the shoulders of giants. One thing that makes X-Men '97 work so well is that everybody's rowing in exactly the same direction. Everyone that works on the show knows that original series inside and out. "
He then added how the original show's creators remain involved in X-Menβ97 Season 2, as he continued,
"And we work very closely with Eric and Julia Lewald and Larry Houston [creators of X-Men: The Animated Series]. They're here all the time reviewing material and talking to the artists. The second season feels very much a worthy successor to the first season."
More details on X-Menβ97 Season 2
X-Men β97 is returning for another wild ride through time, space, and mutant mayhem. After the first season became one of Marvel Studios Animationβs biggest critical hits, season 2 is officially on the way, landing on Disney+ in 2026.
Season 1 ended with chaos: Magnetoβs failed βMagneto Protocolβ nearly destroyed Earth, Professor X healed his mind, and in doing so flung several mutants, Rogue, Storm, Wolverine, Beast, Nightcrawler, Magneto, and Xavier, back to ancient Egypt, around 3000 BC. Meanwhile, Jean and Scott find themselves in the far future, raising a young Nathan Summers with Rachel Summers aka Mother Askani. Back on Earth, Forge was left as βthe last X-Man,β with Bishop returning from the future to rebuild the team. The post-credits scene teased the rise of Apocalypse, who unearthed Gambitβs playing card from Genoshaβs ruins, hinting that our charming Cajun might return in a darker, undead form.
With a third season already in development and DeMayoβs original vision still guiding the story, X-Menβ97 Season 2 promises a bold, emotional continuation of Marvelβs most iconic animated saga, one that refuses to play it safe.
X-Menβ97 Season 2 will premiere on Disney+ in 2026. Meanwhile the previous season is available to stream on the platform.
