Ayo Edebiri is keeping it real about The Bear snagging a comedy nod at the Emmys this year. The actress was also nominated for her third Emmy for her work as an actor on the show, having also picked up directing this season. More than awards, these nominations celebrate her fearless artistry, a voice that turns messy kitchens into a stage, and comedy into something sharp, emotional, and alive. The Bear has been one of the most popular shows in recent times, and Edebiri is steering it straight into Emmy history.

Talking about how she feels about the Emmy nominations, the actress told Vanity Fair:

"My feeling is that that is a question that is honestly above my pay grade. That's a question for the studios. We get asked a lot about it as actors and they don't ask the producer, so that's kind of my answer to that."

The actress also opened up on the episode Napkins that she directed for the show and what motivated her to choose it as she added:

"The writing was just so beautiful. I remember reading it and seeing it in my mind, like really clearly. There was a real advantage because it was not only a standalone episode of a character that we hadn't really gotten to see, but it got to be outside of the restaurant...I really enjoy directing. I mean, more than like it, I really love it and I can't wait to do it more. And it’s nice to get to wake up like an hour later because you're not in hair and makeup. I enjoy that as well."

The third season of The Bear got thirteen nominations

Ever since the show's debut in 2022, The Bear has been an Emmys favorite. The show has cooked up another Emmy storm, bagging 13 nominations for its third season and marking a historic milestone for Ayo Edebiri. With this latest sweep, FX’s culinary whirlwind now boasts 49 nominations across three seasons, with 21 golden statuettes already on its shelf. Edebiri, who brings Sydney Adamu to life, earned her third consecutive nod for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, but it’s her first-ever directing nomination for Napkins that has fans buzzing.

Even though Season 4 has hit Hulu screens, the Emmys are looking only at Season 3 this year. The third season earned nods across the board, from casting and directing to picture editing, lead and supporting performances, guest acting, sound mixing, and, of course, Outstanding Comedy Series.

The Bear’s previous Emmy journey has been equally impressive. At the 2024 awards, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Jeremy Allen White won in their categories, Liza Colón-Zayas made history, and Christopher Storer took home the directing Emmy for Fishes.

The Bear is available to stream on Disney+.
