Netflix is set to release a deep look into the making of Stranger Things with One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, details explored

If you're still suffering from the sadness of Stranger Things' ending, Netflix has brought another treat to fans of the science fiction show. The streaming giant is releasing a documentary that will explore the creation, shooting, and making of the show's last season, going behind the scenes of one of the most talked-about finales in television history in recent years.

The synopsis for the documentary reads,

“A decade after rewiring pop culture, Stranger Things returns for its final chapter. One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5 is a sweeping behind-the-scenes chronicle that follows the cast, creators, and crew as they bring the final season to life — and say goodbye to the show that changed them forever.”

The documentary is being directed by Martina Radwan, who called the experience of working with the crew on set "a true privilege." The first trailer came out today, offering some sneak peeks into the premise, particularly from the table reads, tearful behind-the-scenes as the last scene of the show was being created, and the Duffers' exploration of how they decided Eleven's fate.

Speaking to Tudum, the creators talked about what inspired them to make this documentary, as they told the outlet about how the behind-the-scenes documentaries for The Lord of the Rings first introduced them to the demanding world of filmmaking. They continued to add how the decline of physical media has led to the disappearance of behind-the-scenes storytelling, and that is exactly what they wanted to bring back.

“We wanted to bring it back. One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5 — beautifully captured and directed by Martina Radwan — is our attempt to do just that. If you love Stranger Things, or if you’re simply curious how a major Hollywood production comes to life, this one’s for you.”

What happens in the Stranger Things finale?

The final chapter of Stranger Things gives almost happy endings to all the characters as the battle ends, our characters get peace, and the horror of Hawkins is gone. After everyone comes together to destroy the Mind Flayer and kill Vecna, everyone goes on to have their own life. It's a bittersweet ending, but one that fits.

Eleven’s fate is the most haunting. She stays behind as the Upside Down collapses, choosing to end the nightmare permanently. She shares a final, devastating goodbye with Mike before vanishing. Later, Mike tells a gentler version of the story, imagining Kali helping Eleven slip away through an illusion. The show never confirms the truth, leaving hope and grief to coexist as fans hold on to the possibility of her being alive.

The rest of the group moves forward. Mike channels his love for stories into writing. Dustin becomes valedictorian as he graduates with everyone else and heads to college, but never outgrows his bond with Steve. Will leaves Hawkins for a city where he can live freely and honestly. Lucas and Max find stability together and continue dating.

Steve stays home, coaching kids as a baseball coach. Robin goes to Smith, and Nancy drops out of college and takes a risk at the Boston Herald to pursue journalism. Jonathan gets into NYU and becomes a filmmaker in New York, while Joyce and Hopper get engaged and start over in Montauk, giving a happy ending to all our characters and a life devoid of any haunting from creatures from another world.
