If you've already peaked at the Only Murders in the Building Season 5 trailer and the new photos from the sets, you already know that the show is bringing a whole lot of fun, exciting energy, and the outfits worn by the cast seem to be contributing to the plot. Selena Gomez as Mabel is not free of her trademark fast, off-beat flair, but her garments this time around are a touch darker, a touch edgier, leaving the feeling that this season might be more intense. Previously revealed to fans, who correctly made a guess when Gomez tweeted behind-the-scenes photos, Logan Lerman seems poised to become an immediate part of the mystery, perhaps even the list of suspects.

The upcoming clips bear promises of mob-style drama, billionaire suspects, and that combo of comedy and suspense that Only Murders in the Building is synonymous with.

As a character, Selena Gomez’s Mabel in Only Murders in the Building, has always been sweetly vulnerable, combined with vicious curiosity: the type of woman who will ask you some odd questions and then go on to knit a sweater simultaneously. The Season 5 trailer and publicity stills push the Mabel we are familiar with to a slighter more morose palette: sleeker silhouette, more leveled expressions, simple yet striking clothing, and glances that suggest not so much fun snooping but preparing to face head-on consequences.

The visuals also hint that Mabel may have an even more emotional journey this season. She remains at the centre of the trio (Steve, Martin, and her), but this time, she seems more prepared to bear with the chilling, dramatic events.

Logan Lerman checks into the Arconia

The arrival of Logan Lerman into the Season 5 cast of Only Murders in the Building, first came to a boil when Selena Gomez shared a behind-the-scenes group picture on Instagram that featured the actor along with the other A-list visitors, and fans could not wait to speculate. Promotional material and pre-release coverage indicate that Lerman is playing a character who finds himself caught up in the central mystery of the show, someone who seems to be amongst the rich and suspicious.

His first frames are interesting as he appears to be a person of privilege forced into a strange, potentially precarious orbit straight out of the Only Murders playbook: the ideal suspect, sidekick, or simply an observer. With the characters who surround him (Renée Zellweger, Christoph Waltz, and others), one can easily see the potential of Lerman being important to the plot. Whatever be his specified position on the show, the first sight of him is quite a fascinating mix of amiability and mystery.

What to expect from the new season of Only Murders in the Building

Plotwise, the mystery revolves around not only the death of a doorman, whom everyone likes in the Arconia building, but also the disappearance of a character who is somehow connected to the mob, and this instantly expands the canvas to a full-blown crime intrigue.

Season 5 trailer does two things rather well: it tips the hat to the tropes of the classic mob movies without breaking the comic core of the show, and it increases the stakes emotionally for our podcasting trio. It exudes a bit of serious Godfather vibes with the lines, and leans into visual shorthand, candlelit rooms, somber-looking halls, and most importantly people up to very shady activities.

Just know that the season is heavily star-studded (many of the guest names are already confirmed), tonally flexible (part scary, part goofy), and paced in such a way that you are guessing as to when the next laugh will be. The 5th season of Only Murders in the Building is officially set to release on September 9, 2025, on Hulu.
