One Piece Season 2 first-look teases the arrival of a new character

Brace yourself! One Piece Season 2 has some interesting updates. It's been almost two years since Netflix's popular fantasy adventure series One Piece Season 1 premiered back in August 2023. Developed by Matt Owens, this series is based on Eiichiro Oda's popular manga by the same title.

Ahead of the release of One Piece Season 2, Netflix has come up with an exciting update. In the 2025 Tudum livestream event, the crew teased a new cast addition to the live-action series. And it's none other than Tony Tony Chopper — a shy and small reindeer-boy hybrid with a cute blue nose, purple shorts, and a big hat with a cross symbol.

Who is Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece Season 2?

In the recently released One Piece Season 2 teaser, Tony Tony Chopper is introduced in a chaotic yet fun way. Chopper is voiced by the 40-year-old American actress Mikaela Hoover (The Belko Experiment and DC Studios' Superman)

In the teaser, we see Chopper hiding behind a pillar as the background voice (most certainly of Luffy's) says,

"Chopper, you're hiding the wrong way; we can all see you. Chopper, come out."

Chopper appears from behind the pillar as he introduces himself,

"Hi Tudum. My name is Tony Tony Chopper and I'm sorry, I can't be there in person, but..Oh, I'm supposed to tell you about One Piece Season 2."

In a chaotic yet cute way, he falls down the stairs as he shouts,

"Ow! Help, Someone call a doctor! Oh, wait, I am a doctor."

With a little motivation, Chopper gets up and then goes on to announce that he will be a part of Season 2 of One Piece, which is all set to release in 2026.

As the audience claps and cheers for him, Chopper gains back his confidence and says,

"Shut up. I don't need your clapping, you jerks. I mean it."

But who is Chopper, and why is he called Tony Tony Chopper?

Chopper is portrayed as the cute reindeer-human hybrid, who gains human-like traits after consuming the Human-Human Fruit (a devil fruit). His aspirations? To be a doctor who has a cure for every disease. He serves as a doctor for the Straw Hat Pirates and hides his emotions behind a tough facade. Additionally, he is fiercely loyal and protective of the crew. He is called Tony Tony Chopper because he was a tonakai (reindeer in Japanese). However, due to his blue nose, he was often treated as an outcast by his species in his childhood. He was often called names and bullied, so he spent most of the time alone before he got human-like powers from the Devil fruit. Interestingly, he is also called Cotton Candy Lover for his immense love for sweet dishes.

A fan favorite character, Chopper, originally appeared in Chapter 134 of the manga. Hoover, who voiced Chopper for the Netflix series, told Tudum,

“What excited me about playing Chopper is the tug of war between his standoffishness and his huge heart. I believe there is a little Chopper in all of us. We all want to be loved and accepted. We go to great lengths to keep the people that we love safe. There’s a purity to his nature that reminds us of what’s good in the world.”

One Piece Season 2 returns to Netflix in 2026.
