Percy Jackson And The Olympians creator Rick Riordan reveals why Season 2 did not follow a major storyline from the books 

Rick Riordan is setting expectations straight before Percy Jackson And The Olympians season 2 hits the screen. As fans revisit The Sea of Monsters in live action, one major storyline from the book is noticeably reshaped, and Riordan wants viewers to know it was a deliberate call, not a careless omission.

In an interview with Variety, Riordam spoke about how on the show, Luke stabs and poisons Thalia's tree, reshaping the moments in the novel where Chiron is suspected of doingo until it's revealed in the end that it was Luke. That element of surprise is missing on the show, as viewers get to know right away that Luke poisoned the tree.

It was, however, a conscious decision to adapt the story for the screen, as Riordan said, Speaking to the outlet, he explains,

"There is something valuable, in the TV version, about seeing that moment in real time. It’s powerful. It immediately makes you understand the stakes when Luke and Percy lock eyes with each other. The challenge is issued right from the beginning. It’s not as slow burn a mystery as it was in the book, but I think it’s an effective way to tell that story in the new medium."

Executive producer of Percy Jackson And The Olympians Craig Silverstein then adds,

"When you’re doing the screen adaptation of anything, you want to see it on screen. You want to see your hero and your antagonist face each other, so it was important to see Luke — and Blackjack [the Pegasus he’s riding]."

Percy Jackson And The Olympians continues it's mythical run with it's sophomore season, bringing the beloved novel to life for the screen. Created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, the second season follows twelve-year-old demigod Percy Jackson, who is now returning to Camp Half Bloof while grasping the knowledge of Kronos threatening his land and must go to the Sea of Monsters to find the Golden Fleece.

Two episodes have rolled out so far, and the remaining episodes are all set to roll out weekly till January 2026. The second season has received much appreciation from fans and critics, with a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, in what fans are calling an even better season that the first.

Percy Jackson And The Olympians stars Walker Scobell as the titular Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, who is Athena's daughter, Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Percy's best friend, Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, Ares' daughter and Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Hermes' son.
